So I took my GRE yesterday, and I gotta say, it was stressful.

I actually felt good about until I was done with my break. When I got back on my break, no one was responding to me. I had to call proctor u 10 minutes after my break was done to figure out what’s happened. They didn’t explain to me what happened and told me that I would get a different proctor.

And that’s not all. I was in the middle of the math section, then all of a sudden, I get an error message and was KICKED out of my test. It took about 10 minutes for me to get back to the guest but my stress level skyrocketed.

Ultimately I got at 149V and 147Q. I’m honestly not happy with it (really wanted at least a 150 on both). Idk if I need to retake it again or just send this score. I feel like it’s so close to 150 that I could get away with that. I wouldn’t mind taking it again but that’ll mean spending more money on this test

(Sorry if it sounds like I’m ranting or overreacting... I just didn’t expect to have a problem taking the test)

Also my cGPA is a 3.3 and my pGPA is a 3.75-3.8 depending on the school. Most of the schools I’m applying to doesn’t have a minimum so that’s the main reason for my question of if I should retake it.

I had a very similar at home experience as you. I got the EXACT same scores as you and it was my second time taking it.

I'm not retaking it a third time. It costs so much money. I'll end up taking it a third time if I don't get in anywhere but ultimately I realized its too late at this point. Most of the schools I applied to have an October 1st deadline so definitely check that.

I did never hear back from one school whose minimums were 150. I think my application was automatically kicked out. So, unless your schools have that minimum its up to you

I took the GRE at home a few months ago and had a similar experience. My screen froze after my 10 minute break and I had to talk thru the mic until the proctor finally heard me and fixed it. Luckily I ended up getting the scores that I needed to apply but it was super stressful as well.

Honestly, your pGPA is really solid so as long as you don't apply to schools that have a GRE minimum, I think you'll be alright. Lots of schools also look at your application as a whole rather than just GPA and GRE stats, so if you have solid extracurriculars I wouldn't stress too much. There's also some schools that don't even require a GRE score (Samuel Merrit, Pacific, George Fox) so if the score is bothering you, I'd look into applying to those.

Hope this helped, good luck!!

Just a slightly different perspective, I took the at home 2 times, and while I had some problems nothing as significant as yours. However, I will say that the 2nd time around I was much more relaxed, I knew exactly what to expect, there was less pressure and I ended up scoring slightly higher will minimal re-studying.
If you have the financial means to take the test again, I would. If not, and the schools you are applying to don't have a minimum then don't worry about it.

Thanks for the advice guys! I think I’m just gonna keep this score and not test again. Almost all the schools I’m applying for doesn’t have a minimum requirement and hearing y’all’s advice is giving me some relief. Thanks again!

good choice! I have a theory the at home is rigged. I studied ALL of quarantine and made the same exact score as my last one which I didnt study for. also had problems. hate that I signed up for an 8 am test and didnt legit start testing till almost 9.

Agree with others that if there isn't a minimum, don't retake. My only additional advice is don't go into an explanation of this in your app or interview. Yes, it was an unfair/stressful experience, but if I'm on the ad com side, I'm going to see 1) excuses, 2) how are you going to handle stressful situations as a PT student and PT.

Thanks for the advice. I will definitely take that into account.

I am not sure if you lost any time during those 10 minutes issues. If you did, I would contact GRE and ask them to provide me with another test free of charge since ProctorU was not able to fix the issues in timely manner and 10minutes is a BIG loss. If you did not loose any time, then I doubt you can ask for your money back or a credit for another GRE.

I completely agree with the others. It's totally not worth retaking it again because its a waste of time and money. I took it a third time at home and had the worst experience ever as I had the same thing happen to me as well. And I feel like it's way harder at home as well because my scores ended up being lower than what I had expected, despite all of the resources I had used. The thing that annoyed me the most though was after getting my scores back they send you the breakdown of the sections and how you did, literally I thought it was absolutely stupid as to how they show you what question you got wrong but they don't show you the actual question. That really angered me because it's like how am I supposed to know where I went wrong. Like It's not fair. I understand they probably did that because of cheating or something but hello like given the fact we are in the middle of a pandemic and life is already difficult as is like at least the testing center should consider how to be more efficient and how to help. It's absolutely ridiculous.

Damn I’m sorry that happened to you. I do agree I wish they can give you at least an overview so that you can focus on what went wrong
