  1. Dental Student
I'm trying to decide whether to do a BS in Biology or a BA. I have contacted one DS and they said that they do not look at the type of degree but at the courses taken. The main difference that concerns me is that the BS requires Calculus whereas the BA just requires College Algebra and Trig, two classes that I already have. I'm not scared of taking Calculus, but I also don't like it. The three Dental Schools I'm looking at do not require Calculus I pretty much have two questions:

Do Dental Schools look favorably upon students that have taken Calculus?

Do you use Calculus in Dental school or would you be fine without it?

I'm not sure which schools require calc, but you might end up having to take it as a prereq for certain classes (physics, pharmacology, wine tasting, etc)

For sure wine-tasting...😉

A B.S. might carry a little bit more weight on a job application should ds not end up being an alternative.

My school only offers Biology as a B.A but I took Calculus on the side because a few schools require it. Either way it might be smart to take Calc.

It's good for everyone to have an appreciation for mathematics. Calculus is a good course.

No, I respectfully disagree. lol

Well I've decided to do the BS. I think it'll be better, plus to BA would require me to take Zoology and Plant Science, two classes that sound cool, but I planned on taking other more dental related bio classes instead. Again, I'm not scared of taking calculus, I would just rather not because it's hard for me and is relatively useless in real life. But to all those math buffs out there, congrats, more power to ya!

Thanks for pointing out the difference between a BS and a BA to me. Now I finally know why I have to take Calculus and Physics for courses where the prerequisites are EGL101, REA100, and Statistics.
