Which would you choose and why?

I personally like Boston because the city itself is far more interesting than Atlanta, which I found to be a bit boring. I have never lived on the East coast and even though it's 3 years, I still want to live in a place where I'll be happy. But, the much higher cost of living in Boston and the higher tuition (~15k) is a bit too much, although my parents say they will support me to a degree. At the same time, this may be the last chance I can get out of my current state (lived here my whole life) and live somewhere else before I get too old. Curriculum wise, I think Emory's is better.

What do you think? Do you think you can risk getting into such debt? Am I just crazy to consider this even?
Anyone going to Emory or Boston who can share their experience?

PM me. i'm from Boston and am about to finish PT school at Emory

I did not apply to either one, so obviously my opinion does not count for much. But...

Everyone on this forum believes that you should always go cheaper if there is a $10k+ difference. Don't forget about the interest on that $15k! And relocation costs.

It is tempting to use PT school as your "one last adventure" before you grow up and lead a boring life. But if you go to Emory, you can always do a clinical rotation in an exciting place!

A few of the PTs I know chose to move to an exciting locale for school. And they had mixed feelings. One went to school in Florida, but said she never actually went to the beach as much as she wanted because she was always busy with school. Another says the debt was not worth it.

It's not really comparable, but I moved out west for undergrad because I love skiing and mountains and outdoor fun. I can now say it was not a smart decision. My poor parents spent 3x's as much money for out of state tuition. Which I have soooo much guilt about. And I didn't even go skiing or hiking or climbing all that much because it was expensive and my program required a lot of studying. But when you're 18 and hate your home town, you think anywhere else sounds exciting.

But luckily, we are now a bit older and wiser, and can make hopefully make practical decisions. 🙂
