C- in a lab...what to do?

Hi everyone,

I really despise and am not very good with lab classes. I got a B+ in ochem II, but somehow managed to get a C- in ochem lab. This worries me because I checked some school websites and they mentioned that you need to pass the courses with no lower than a C.

Some other school websites never explicitly mentioned that I can't have a C- (NYU, UOP). But basically this means I have to retake this lab class then right? 🙁.

hmmm if i got a C+ in another class would it be okay to retake that as well? The professor I had was way hard, but according to my friends, there is a better prof. I know the retake will show on my transcript with the first time i took it (so i cant erase the first time i took it), but isnt it better to do better the second time? should i retake that as well? For another class, would a B- be worth retaking if i know i can do a lot better the second time?

If your grade is higher than a C, you're better off taking more upper division course showing that you can master difficult material. Personally, I'd only retake the C- and also do really well in upper division biology courses.

Yea you should retake the C- but don't waste time on stuff above a C. Spend your time taking on more challenging courses.

I talked to my advisor about getting a C- in physics II and she said it really depends on the school. A lot of the d-school websites that I have checked said at least a letter grade of C. So isn't a C- still okay?? I know you should take it again if you can, but physics is the class I despise the most...ugh.

Midwestern " No grade lower than C will be accepted for any prerequisite course. (A grade of C- will not be accepted."

UCSF wants all courses planned or in progress to be completed with a B or better. If you get below a B your file is subject to review. I found this out after they checked my pre-reqs in a email. I had thought you just needed to pass with a C or better.

if you can just retake the lab. I know that NO one wants to spend any more time in Ochem then they have to but just take it over then you can forget that this ever happened... As long as the rest of your grades are fine of course.

I'm going to have to retake a D+ I managed to get this past semester in a bio course.😡
But hey, you live and learn. Just think of what a difference it'll make, right?

Be honest and sincere to the professor? Go talk to them and ask for a grade change? I had a C changed to a B- from this past fall quarter, I told the prof that Pacific required no lower than a B in any of my classes and I think he sympathized. I also told him that I was travelling a lot for graduate school interviews but still made an effort to attend every lecture of his. If you're tactful, maybe you can get the grade changed.
