Hi everyone,

I'm a junior getting ready to prepare for the DAT this summer and have had an extremely rough year academically after transferring schools.
I got my first C+ in Microbiology and will be lucky to get a C in Biochem.
I've gotten A's and high B's for all of my other pre-req courses.

Overall GPA: ~3.50
Science GPA: ~3.30
which are the averages for my top-choice school.
Will take DAT this summer and apply for 2015 cycle.

Should I retake Biochem next semester before I apply?

Thanks!

In my opinion, no. I applied with a C+ in my 3rd quarter biochem class and got accepted (my only C). It was brought up during one of my interviews, but the interviewer said, "I can ask you about that C you got, but I don't see a point." 😛

Keep your other grades up, though! And if you DO get below a C (you said you will be lucky to get a C), then retake it. Anything below a C for a pre-req isn't good.

2 C/C+s in intro bios, B- in biochem I, C+ in biochem II Junior year. Didn't retake anything.

B+ in Genetics Senior year. 21 and 20 on Bio DAT (92%-tile, 86%-tile - took twice).

Just got into BU, Buffalo, Penn 2 days ago.

Everyone's situation is different, but there's hope 🙂 Probably don't need to retake if you can do well on the DAT's and show good grades senior year. I attributed the grades to a busy year and learning curve of biology.

Retaking biochem would be a waste of time and money. Instead, invest that time and money into crushing the DAT. Good luck!

1-2 C's don't mean the end of the world. Try to balance out those Cs with some good grades, so your GPA doesn't get crushed and rock that DAT!
But try to not get any more in the future 🙂

This. I got my first c+ in biochemistry my junior year. Studied DAT, got 24/25. Just got into Penn and ucsf. Also don't forget to have some extracurricular stuff.

Don't stop believing (journey).
