Hi guys. I took Physics I (mechanics) with lab at a university that goes by quarter term system. Lecture and lab are separate. I got a C- in lecture (3 units) and an A in lab (2 units). I also took Physics II (magnetism) w/lab (3+2 units) and Physics III (waves and optics) w/lab (3+2 units); I passed these courses with a C or better. So in total, I have 12 passing quarter units and 3 not so passing quarter units, according to some schools. I know some schools just put "Physics" as their course title with 3 semester hours or 4.5 quarter hours as part of their physics prereq. By that, I'd fulfill the prereq. Here is the real dilemma: a few schools i'm interested in applying to list "Physics I w/lab" as part of their prereq. By that specific requirement, I would not fulfill the physics prereq. My question is, Do they only look at Physics I w/lab grade or I could my passing physics II-III grade to fulfill this? I know some schools take C- in prereq as passing, so I don't have to worry about this. Please ask if you don't understand what i'm trying to say. 🙂 Thanks in advance.

Basically I guess you're trying to find out if they average out the C- you got in lecture and the A in lab? That might something that's school specific. I also got a C- in Physics I but the lecture and lab were combined so I had to retake it.

Truly depends on the school.

I'm not trying to find out if they would average out the C- in lecture and the A in lab in physics I. I was just wondering if they could use my passing grades in physics II w/lab and physics III w/lab to fulfill their "physics I w/lab" prereq.

Minnesota and Maryland and Iowa takes C-.

Source: applied last year. But email them to double check it's the same policy this year

Thanks for the response. I'm aware of that, but I'm also applying to Nova SU, Sullivan, Uni. of Arkansas, and Shenandoah (2nd choice after U of Minn.) among other schools that require Physics I w/ Lab as a prereq. I'm applying to about 8-10 schools since my stats are not that great (3.0 gpa at UCSD, 93 PCAT composite, and no ECs). Hopefully I'll get in somewhere.

You'll get pretty much anywhere with these pcat score. If you got good extracurriculars don't worry about it. You'll probably get into most top schools that require pcat.
