calculating gpa

at my school, lab classes are 6 credits and non-lab are 4. Does pharmcas take this into consideration since most other schools it's 4 for lab and 3 for non?

For example, I want to re-take organic II this summer to try to bring up a C. However, if I have a C in a 6credit class and an A in a four credit class, it wont balance out to a B. You know what I mean? Does pharmcas convert the six credit system to make them all equal?

That's a good question. I think that Pharmcas applies all coursework attempted. The individual pharmacy school that you apply to has the opportunity to look at it more objectively. It will look good to them that you want to bring up the organic chem grade and if you're succesful in reaching your goal of A, that will look good to them as well. You'll probably be ok with a C - I would be most interested in retaking a D or F.

The number of credits alloted each class are on your transcripts. PharmCAS uses your transcripts to pull its numbers for GPA calcs so yes they would treat the 6 unit class as 6 units and 4 unit class as 4units unless one is a semester and the other is a quarter (I forget if everything is calculated as semesters or quarters). In terms of replacement, PharmCAS doesn't calculate replacements as a replacement. Each grade and associated credits are calculated just as if it were an entirely different class. Therefore both the A with 4 units and the C with 6 units are calculated in the overall GPA and any sub-category (Science, Math, Non-science) that they happen to fall in.
