Hello,
Due to the lack of information on the CA law and ethics exam on the CA dental board website and on these forums this thread hopes to provide people with adequate information to pass the exam.
Application process:
Application just requires sending in the PDF form online to the dental board.
One thing that is important to note is that there are a couple dates you can pick from each the month. If a specific date is important to you because you need to travel than you can call the contact listed in advance and he can make sure you are scheduled for the date. ie I was scheduled for the Feb 9-10 slot but I needed to take the exam on the 9th. I called and made sure that I would be scheduled to take the exam on the 9th. After this you will receive a letter in the mail of the specific time during the day you will take the exam. I think the time ranges are from 9 AM-3 PM during the day so make sure you leave that time slot free.
So there is the scheduling process.
The exam:
You will need an ID, the confimation letter and a #2 pencil for the exam.
The actual exam is a scantron format of 50 questions.
You are given 50 minutes to take the exam. You need a 75% to pass.
Exam Content:
The exam itself is not difficult. It is very common sense ethical based questions. Ex: "A patient wants you take out all his/her teeth for dentures...what are your obligations as a dentist?" etc.
A couple more specific questions are questions that involve time ie...how long should you keep a patients records for? If you change your address how soon do you need to notify the board.
Surprisingly there are no questions involving CE credits which is was surprised with. I just thought there would be more questions based on that.
There are a decent number of questions asking about the roles of an RDA versus a DA. So know what an RDA can do under direct supervision etc. I was given a link by a friend called a "table of permitted duties" which helped.
It is listed below along with other study materials I would recommend.
Obviously there were questions that I did not know the answer to and could not find it on the dental board website so I wouldn't know where to look.
Listed below are some things I would study and you should be fine.
Table of permitted duties

The CDA code of ethics.
This PDF is an older version of the PDF on www.fice.com
http://www.mediafire.com/file/0eniit...d ethics.pdf
I suggest that if you have the money probably the most current one on www.fice.com would be your best bet.
Best wishes on the exam and I hope this helps. I will follow up to let you know if I pass. If I don't pass then disregard this email HA HA.
