I am going to be at Drexel on the 7th. I am going to stay in philly until the evening of the 8th. What are some good places to go? ANd should I rent a car or use their public trans. system (how is that?) ??

Anyone else going to be there on the 7th>

I am by no stretch of the imagination from Philly, but I was there a while back for an interview. There's a subway station pretty close to the Drexel/Penn campuses, so you shouldn't need to rent a car. Subway system is fine, but just like any other big city, it's not recommended that you ride on it late at night.

Actually the subways stop running around 12:30 am, but the buses run all night and they're pretty safe. Cabs are always an option too. I recommend Old City (between Front St. and 5th st. and Market) and South Street for going out, great bars and restaurants. Delaware Ave. (AKA Columbus Blvd.) is the home of the cheesy club scene, so unless you're into that I recommend avoiding it. 🙂

There are also some decent college-scene bars and restaurants in University City near Penn/Drexel main campus, so be sure to check out that area too. Drexel's med school campus is a little far removed from the city, but very easily accessible by train during the day, so if I were you I would stay in a hotel in the Center City/University City area rather than closer to the med campus.

Check out www.septa.org for info on transportation.
