I am using campell's bio and I am not skipping any chapters. From what I have heard about how wide-open the bio can be I wouldn't skip anything. I skipped over a few sections inside the chapter (ex: some stuff on cloning) but I would cover all of your bases since they could put anything on there. If you dont have enough time then you might want to skip some but if you have time then make sure you cover everything.

I skipped over chapters on plants, ecology and classification. The chapters I went over in detail were the first 20 chapters and the chapters on anatomy. For plants, ecology and classification, i just used an old AP bio review book from high school and Kaplan's DAT book.

but after taking kaplan practice tests and subject tests....it doesnt seem like i need to know everything in that book. are all those kaplan tests just not representative of the real thing?

Kaplan tests are much more difficult. Go to the ADA site. It outlines specifically will be on the test. Therefore, they aren't going to put something on the test that is not on their list. This will save you a ton of time.

http://www.ada.org/prof/ed/testing/dat/scope.asp

Some of the topics are very broad, but they will save much more time then reading the whole Campbell book.

You can also get a test from the DAT publishers that best represents what to expect, and it is nothing like Kaplan. Although, I would very much recommend studying Kaplan material, because going that in depth really helps.

Where can we get a test from the DAT publishers?

is that ADA practice test really like the DATs? i thought it seemed way too easy for the actual test
