I would agree with what you have stated about the MUSC program. I did go interview there. I was more impressed than I thought I would have been. I would say that they are a happy group of residents, quite competent, and lay-back. The residency programs certainly promotes residents to have a full life outside of work. The staff does seem top notch and provide nice learning environment. The majority are going into fellowships -- typically there first or second choice.
If you are debating on interviewing there, would check your career goals. If you are pursuing an academic position -- reach higher. If not, I would consider MUSC.
BTW, Charleston would be a fabulous place to live during your residency.
Cheers.
