Hello, non-traditional student here wondering if I can apply this cycle or if I need another gap to beef up my resume.

My story: 3.3uGPA, had no passion while an undergrad until I decided to pursue medicine as a 5th year senior. Across 3 semesters I have gotten a 4.0 in my bio and physics series and a 4.0 in organic 2, bringing my cGPA to 3.39. During this time I have gotten a few thousand hours as a scribe and almost 200 hours volunteering in a free clinic. I have no research experience beyond ~3 poster presentations for classes as an undergrad. I was lined up tostart non-clinical volunteering and shadowing but this got delayed/cancelled due to Covid. MyMCAT also got delayed.

given that, can I apply this cycle if I get an MCAT in June near my FL’s (519 average)? Obviously I would like to go MD, but I am not opposed to DO. I live in Washington State

Three semesters of great performance may or may not be enough data points to convince Adcoms and screeners that the you of now is not you of then.

Chances for MD best with your state schools. Otherwise, you're fine for DO.

How much nonclinical volunteering do you have??

This is my biggest concern, I have 0 non-clinical volunteering. My clinical volunteering is with a free clinic working with underserved populations. I have no real pre-med advisor and I didn’t realize explicit non-clinical volunteering was expected. Is that a death sentence or is working with underprivileged in a “clinical” setting sufficient?

Then you're not ready to apply. Medicine is a service profession, after all. Take a gap year and engage in service to others less fortunate than yourself. Right now you could probably start with Meals on Wheels
