I want to enroll at Georgia Military College in their Early Commissioning Program to earn my commission as a 2nd lieutenant in 2 years. Then I want to finish my degree at the University of Georgia and major in Pre-Dentristy or Computer Engineering. By the time I grad. from UGA I'll be a 1st lieutenant.

Now after I graduate can I get the HPSP scholarship and become a dentist? That's what I want to do. If I have to be in the reserves or active duty it doesn't matter. I just want to be a dentist.

You can do it only for active duty - but I do not recommend it. The reserves do not offer the HPSP. If you do ROTC or any other military school with an obligation - you will push your Active Duty obligation and how long you have to wait for your bonuses way out. Doing ROTC or the schools will obligate you to a minimum of 8 yrs in the service plus whatever time for specialty training (If you also do the HPSP scholarship). You have the potential of being committed and without taking the big bonuses at least 10-12 yrs depending on your specialty.

What I am talking about is purely a financial reason. Doing ROTC or any of the schools will make you a great officer and will enrich your military career - it will also cause you to lose out on at least $200k in bonuses that you would be eligible for sooner in your active duty career.

What are some bonuses I'd be eligible and how much are they?
Once your obligation to the Military is done and you elect to stay longer. If you have specialized there is currently a $50k/yr multi-year retention bonus for all specialists (except Oral Surgeons - $100k). That would be the only bonus you couldn't get if you were still paying back commitments for ROTC/service schools.
