Hi, I'm currently an undergrad student in Arkansas. Since we do not have a dental school here and we have spots available at a few schools in other states (Tennessee, UMKC, Oklahoma, Baylor, Louisville, Meharry, and LSU), am I eligible for instate tuition at those institutions?

Might depend on the state but I would say no probably. You could be considered more as an instate applicant however, which might help you get in places texas, etc.

There are a few d-schools out there that after your first year of dental school, will grant you in-state eligibility. That being said, I am not 100% sure which schools do that, but you can call each of their admissions offices and they should be able to tell you no problem.

I know Baylor gives almost every out of state student scholarships which gives u in-state tuition.

If your state doesn't have a dental school, it should have an arrangement with other states to take you and charge you as an in-state resident. I'm sorry I don't know a website about it, but google it and see what you can find. Your school's premed advisors should know about it.

Good luck!

I know that if you apply to Tennessee as an Arkansas resident they have some deal with your state that you will be able to pay in-state tuition(or really close to it). Meharry is private so their institution is just one rate for everyone. At Louisville you will have to pay out-of-state tuition all four years. These were the only schools I knew about from your list that I am sure on. Wouldn't want to give you just a guess on the others. Hope this helps some.

Yes, I'm almost positive...not 100% though, that TN grants Arkansas residents a scholarship to help them out....err and maybe Louisville does too.

I could have sworn I read that somewhere... hmmm Email them!!

I know for a fact that Lousiville does NOT let you get in-state...and it is very hard to get a scholarship to help out there! They like that out of state money(especially with the nice big renovation they are trying to do!). Thus, Lousiville takes a lot of out-of-state people, but look at their tuition! It's a pretty penny...

Hey! Ok I found what I remembered seeing. There was a girl on the UT-Memphis acceptance thread that said she was declining her invite to Memphis because she received the "Arkansas stipend thing to go [to Louisville]." Yeah...who knows how much that was.

Then there was someone who was going to TN that said she received the Arkansas Higher Education Grant...again, don't know how much it helps!

Arkansas has an agreement with Baylor with up to 2 funded (in state fee) positions each year.
