Hello,

Can you accept a controlled RX fax in NY? Or, can you accept it and ask for the original hard copy RX within 72 hours? Thanks.

I work in NY. When I was in school, the law was that faxes = phoned in rxs for controls...no more than an emergency 5 day supply (or 30 days for a CIV). We usually just call and get a "phoned in" rx instead, and if we don't get the hard copy in 72 hours just mark on the back of the rx that the hard copy was never received.

Fax = Phone

So.....you CAN accept it, but you have to limit yourself to the what the law allows for an oral rx for that drug or class AND they have to drop that bad boy in the mail. So whenever I get a controlled fax, I ALWAYS call the office to make sure they have my mailing address....plus if it's a quantity I can't take or they put refills or whatever, I explain that too and tell them how they need to adjust that original script they are mailing me
