Can you get fired from a per diem position for not picking up enough shifts/not being flexible with scheduling?

I'm a newish grad trying to stay afloat and working 3 per diem jobs. So far its been working out since I've been trying to commit to each one and I'm working ~60hr/week - which I'm ok with. However, I was just offered a full time position at one of these locations and will obviously take it. I guess a normal person would call it a day and quit the other jobs... but I'm not normal LOL. I wanted to hold onto all of them (1 would be full time and 2 per diem) because 1) I actually enjoy the variety and learning in the different settings, 2) I'd like to have backups in case **** hits the fan, 3) I have loans and 1 job is just not gonna cut it, 4) I've only been working at all three places since the summer and I would feel bad to quit only s few months in.

With that being said, does anyone know if there are requirements in terms of per diem employment at walgreens and in hospitals? I couldn't find anything about it in my offer letters and it wasn't ever really discussed with me. So far, walgreens hasn't cared about my lack of flexibility but the hospital is more strict and expects me to work a certain amount of shifts each week. I don't think they'll be ok with me limiting my availability to 1-2 days a week and I feel like they'd fire me... is that possible?

I'm assuming every hospital has a different policy and maybe even walgreens districts have different requirements so I'll have to ask my employers directly but I just wanted to get a an idea. Thanks in advance!

Per diem is more like part time nowadays. Some places want you to work at least one weekend per month and two holidays per year. Depends on the employer.

I've been a per diem for over a decade... minimums depends on the employer. For some, once a month, for some, once quarter as far as retail goes. For the hospitals, it varies from once a week minimum to once a month, based on what I have heard. Working per diem once a month was actually very common back in the day, but in the last few years a lot of chains have been getting rid of such rare per-diems... so it's hard to say. But in your situation, I would also suggest one full-time and one per-diem job.

I work one full time and one per diem. Based on my experience, it would be very difficult to work two per diems and actually be of any real use.

Plus you have to do a bunch of training modules, IV test, etc for each job. Those things take up a whole shift.

At the hospital system I used to work as an intern at, PRN pharmacists are required to work every other weekend (at least 8 hrs/shift). So if you have a FT job elsewhere working Mon-Fri, your total work schedule between both places ends up being 12 days on/2 days off.

That sucks. I did the FT retail / hospital per diem thing for a couple years and it wasn't worth losing all my weekends. I value my free time over extra pay now.

Seems you can be fired for nearly anything these days..... i guess the company will have to hire another pharm for less money. I;m sure it breaks their hearts.....

Just wanted to post an update in case anyone else is wondering- you need to get "paid at least once every 30 days to remain an active team member" with walgreens
