Canada vs DO vs Carribean

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
No one would ever choose the Carribean over Canada because Canadian schools are LCME accredited and so are the equivalent of U.S. schools for residency purposes.

Therefore you are left with DO vs Carrib which is the most over discussed topic on this discussion board. Use the search function and you will discover millions of threads on this topic.

🙂

Good luck getting into a Canadian school. Unless you are a top top student you won't get in, so there will never be a DO vs. Canada choice unless you are a die hard osteopathic fanatic.

It is like asking should I choose Harvard or should I choose Temple?

Are you sure about that? I thought that because DO school is American it would be much harder to get into than a school in Canada.

Canada is pretty tough competition. Much moreso than DO.

Everything in the United States is bigger, better, and more competitive than any-other country, ****yeah America 🙄

In terms of reputation, McGill is without a doubt the best medical school in Canada. There is not even a question of this. I am a US citizen and recently completed medical school in Canada. I am now at a very competitive residency program in the states. Unfortunately, not too many people know of U of T in the US and abroad (sorry Toronto folks who keep citing this "Macleans" magazine which I have never heard of). Internationally, McGill has an exceptional repuatation. It ranks among the top medical schools in N. America. I am guessing that someone will reply to this post and say that the "reputation" of McGill (especially outside of Canada) is not important and that McGill is just "riding on it's name." If this were true, McGill grads wouldn't be filling the finest residency slots in Canada and the U.S. There also wouldn't be a tremendous amount of new construction on the McGill campus, including the new genomics center.

Why are you asking if you are done med school fourpoints??

Maybe he's curious. I'm always interested in why people choose certain career paths.

canada is very very very very hard to get into. there are only like 8 schools nationally. Most do not accept international students and those that do only accept a handful.

I've met 1 mcgill grad and he's a pedtriac neurosurgeon.

If you can get into a canadian school as an american, then you should have your choice of american schools schools as well, the top schools.

Only reason a DO comparison would come into play would be because of the applicants personal preference. Average candidates for both schools is like comparing Apples and Oranges or whatever. DO and Caribbean students are compared to each other because many times those applicants have the opportunity for both. Each is viewed as a down step from an allopathic school (I'm not saying that DO is a step down from allopathic schools).

Basically Canadian = US allopathic > DO > Caribbean.

You're essentially asking would you go US allopathic or osteopathic.

Temple is a pretty good school. More like saying Havard vs. Mississippi

Temple is a good school! The osteopathic schools are good too!

No one is ever going to choose those two over an acceptance at Harvard. 😉

I would have if I had the opportunity. There's no way I could afford it.
