I am currently in PGY2 of anatomic pathology at a Canadian institution. I have acquired an interest in dermatopathology.

I realize that Canada does not have any fellowship spots for dermpath, making it necessary for me to go to the USA for such an opportunity.

How does a certified Canadian anat.path resident best prepare for acquiring such a fellowship?

Thank you for your help.

Last I checked, Canadian pathologists can sign out dermpath without having a U.S. fellowship. A 5-year anatomic path program generally leaves plenty of time for dermpath electives.

If you want to be American Board of Pathology-certified in dermpath for whatever reason, then you probably need to find a Canadian dermpath who has gone that way and ask how they did it. It's not easy even for U.S. path residents.
