Hello all,

I have a concern. So ever since second semester sophomore year I have been working to raise my GPA (it was a sub 3 up until that point). I have been taking rigorous courses to raise my GPA. I have definitely taken many and still intend on taking as many "med school like classes" like Biochem, Cell Bio, Genetics, Physio, etc. but I've also taken some "easy" classes that may come off as fluff but I obviously take it because I know I can do well in them and because I have an interest in them.

If I have 10-12 med school like classes/bio electives my last two years will it be an issue (I'm applying after graduation)? I certainly am taking as many challenging courses available to me but I'm also taking classes I'm interested in to raise my overall GPA.

I intend on graduating with a 3.6ish GPA and thus far, I'm well on track. But I also realize GPA is placed into context and I don't want them to think it's that high because of fluff because I certainly took/intend on taking almost every Bio elective my school offers.

Don't worry about what classes you take per se, just work to improve your GPA as best you can.

bumping this up because I have a similar situation:

I'm a postbac student, and reapplicant (applied one time). Last semester, I took a bunch of hard classes--genetics, biochem--did well. This semester, I'm taking easier courses (the bio year long lecture + lab sequence) because a) never took it before actually, b) want to finish the lab requirement, c) am preparing for the MCAT and d) obviously I am trying to boost my science gpa (currently 3.58). My goal for the semester: increase that GPA, do well on the MCAT.

My advisor said I'll be asked about my course selection in interviews and be prepared to respond. He said it looks "weird". Does it look like I'm a slacker? Or a ***** who took biochem before bio 101, and made her life so much harder than it had to be? I didn't think this was an issue at all when I registered. How picky can these admissions people be? I am already doing a postbac and now have thousands of hours of clinical experience... I am interested in getting an MD btw.

THANK YOU. I sincerely mean it. I don't like the idea that I might have created a weakness in my application, and that some admissions people might question my work ethic.
