Hey everyone,

I'm currently a fourth-year PharmD applying to hospital pharmacy residency. My end goal is to do medicine, but after graduation I'd like to work as a hospital pharmacist rather than a community pharmacist (based on my previous experiences in both settings).

I'm just wondering if there are any pharmds out there that went into med school afterwards. Did you also do a hospital residency or go into community after your pharmd? Also, how many years later did you decide to go into med school? Any tips?

Finally, do you regret it?

I’m in M3 and all I can say is really look inward to see if you’re ready to take on all this stress/debt/delayed income. It sounds rosy on the outside but it isn’t amazing once you get here that’s for sure. Best of luck regardless

The associate dean at Morehouse School of Medicine, Dr. Anachebe, is a PharmD MD. Maybe shoot her an email?

We have one in our class (current M4). He performed extremely well academically. He was in community before coming back for the MD. Agree that it's a lot to take on, but disagree with previous poster in the sense that I believe that only you know what is best. I am also a career changer (not PharmD) and although there are days where I ask myself what the hello I was thinking, I am, at least this far, pleased with the decision.

What did you change from?

A friend just sent me this Medical Training or Gilead?
Once they began likening being a medical student/resident, which one enters into voluntarily and can leave at any time, to being a "Handmaid," which is a fictitious state-mandated rape victim and forced child-bearer for a nation of religious zealots, I stopped reading.

Is this actually representative of med school? I've heard friends and family say otherwise :s
I'm just third year but it hasn't been that way for me. Seems like that poster kept being put in very malignant positions, or perceived things way worse than they usually are. There are always jerks, but you'll find them in every profession

I think Canada was just a reference to the Handmaid’s tale series. The article reminds me of the book “The House of God”

I had a classmate who was a PharmD before med school. It helps to know all the drugs but there's a huge volume of information on top of that.

Same downsides as any career change--you've already delayed "real life" and now you're delaying it again. Hopefully you're the well-balanced type who can maintain a life while doing through the process.
