In my state the defintion is (inattentive, forgetful) with under a $100 fine. No prison time, probation or removal of license.

I also printed out a form for a STOP class in my state that allows you to remove "Minor Traffic Violations" (as stated on website) from you record (mine was about 5 years ago in high school, so I am not eligible) and goes on the list careless and negligent driving as eligible for the class. But then it lists reckless and careless driving as not eligible (WTF??)

If that website (police dept, sheriff, state patrol) considers it a minor traffic violation (slightly), would adcoms, residency, board lincensing, etc?

The reason I ask is because secondary applications say to list all felonies and misdemeanors besides minor traffic violations.

Unless you were racing (misdemeanor) or going 19 over (I think), I wouldn't list it. But maybe check with the medical school, that's what I might do.

You are right. I checked and it says it is a traffic infraction. I wish I had a another copy of the print out in case it ever came up again (so I could show it only asked for misdemeanors and felonies besides minor stuff. I already sent mine in.

People who drive too fast will never become good doctors. Can't you control yourself? Geez.

Many states have programs to remove traffic violations from your record. What state did you receive the ticket in? If it's really bothering you, you could go to your local traffic court judge and find out if there are any other options you have to remove the ticket from your record. Regardless...it is a traffic violation, which is not considered a misdemeanor or a felony, and thus will never have to be reported to any medical school or on any residency application...I really wouldn't worry about it.

GPACfan, i was going more than 19 miles over the legal limit? all i got was a "citation" and i had to pay the fine. Its just a pettty offense right?

I think. It is probably not a misdemeanor, traffic citation shouldn't be listed on the app. Check your state's defintion of it. Maybe check with the medical school, have a friend call 😉

The only way I can see it being a problem is if you apply to one of the schools that requires your driving record for the past few yrs as part of the secondary. (UVM I believe is one of them). Then you've gotta list it all - moving violations, speeding - everything except parking violations.

ahhh crap...
will they reject you if you got some things on your record? This was the summer after i graduated hs (when i got the ticket), and by the time apply it will be atleast another 2-4 years from now? How far do they want you to go back?

They wont reject you just because of that. Show maturity if you have to report it. Say how immature you were then and how you've grown from it.

i wouldnt worry about any driving offense unless it was something like hit and run or DUI/DWI. A school most likely will not care if you got a speeding ticket in high school.

Now if you were to speed, Just do it after you get your MD .. in your own Aston or Lambo .. 🙂 at least it'll be fun to speed ...
Speeding, kills as we know.. drive safely....🙂 and be least worried of your driving violation mate.

going 19 over is below 25, which would make it a felony at least in TX. it's just your ordinary speeding ticket. show up on your court date, plead guilty, take defensive driving (or deferred adjudication), pay a bunch of fines, and it's erased from your record.

no need to put it on your apps. also don't speed. it's never worth it. 50mph vs 40mph is negligible with the way traffic lights are set up.

i was out in the country side with miles of road ahead. i dont remember how fast i was going, but i was going fast. The officer gave me the citation and left, if it were something more serious he would have arrested me right? I pleaded no contest on the citation and payed the fine (never went to court). Is it still on my record? i didnt know they erasaed violations from the record, i though they were al ways there.

So I checked with the DMV and they said it is not a misdemeanor or felony and that it would considered a minor traffic violation. They also said it will be off my record in 5 months (only on for 5 years).

So I was thinking I wouldn't list it on the secondary....UNTIL I had my gf call the adcom and tell them about the secondary only asking for mis/felony. They said it is better to list everything anyways...WTF?!?! Why would I list something if I didn't have to and it would only hurt me?

Will this come up later (residency. state license) and look like I was lying (even though I didn't have to list it)?

What would you do?

what would happen if you're going 100 on a 65 mph highway and a police pulled you over? No reason i ask this 🙂

Do schools do background checks on all applicants? Let's say you don't list your careless driving, is it a sure thing that they will find out?
