abbaroodle said:Hi, I was hoping to get a bit of info on different apartments near Case, preferably in walking distance.
Does anyone know about the on-campus apartments? They are well located, decently priced, decent looking floor plans, and as of a couple days ago some 1-bedrooms were available. Has anyone been in them? (Are they falling down or really scarry!) Is parking available close by and how much is that? Etc.
Also, any comments on places you visited\lived would be great, including horror land-lord stories, what is "really" walking distance (how long a walk to the med school), prices, conditions, parking, comments from past\current tenets, etc.
Thanks!

CWRU 2008
Hey Abbaroodle
I looked at theuniversity circle inc apartments this past weekend. They are incredibly nice, and are VERY close to the school (i think one of the hospital parking garages is right across the parking lot) the problem is they cost 640 for efficiency and 680 for a 1 bedroom. Parking is extra (i don't remember how much...maybe 40-60 a month) if you have the money, they are well worth a look.
I got my place in shaker heights, which is not too far and is a very nice part of town. My place is through montlack, costs 550 plus 30 for garage parking. I only pay electric (as well as cable, which i don't need, and telephone)
good luck, and see you in aug!

you're right about the distance (for univ. circle inc apts), the ones i knew were right above the campus... pretty nice, from what i hear, and usually a long waiting list to get in... but very expensive. cleveland heights is where most of the students live (i can't remember the name of the street, but there's a street just to the east/south side of campus above little italy with 15-20 apartment buildings on it)...
little italy is a little run down, but super close to campus... coventry is nice, but a little more of a walk ( which can suck in february)
shaker is ok, but there are way fewer things to do in those neighborhoods and you might end up paying for parking on campus, which (in the close lots) is hard to get and costs ~$60/month...
i'd say look for someone looking for a roommate in cleveland heights; high student population, close to bars/libraries/campus and there are some really nice apartments in that area too...
btw, buses in cleveland SUCK.
the rapid transit is nice and cheap, though... some friends of mine lived on the near west side and took the train everyday and paid less than i did for parking (but also had a ~30 min commute each way... granted, it was on a train)
.

Thanks for the info on Univ. Circle Apts ! I think I too will try to find something cheaper - at least when I start the hunt!

You all have found housing already??? did you go to Cleveland? Is it too early or should I be looking now? I was thinking of going to Cleveland in July. But i guess all the good stuff will be taken by then.SoulRFlare said:Hey Abbaroodle

I should probably put this on the other thread, but many of you will be nonplussed to know that Case has closed the vast majority of its "commuter parking" lots (which were fairly close to the med school) in anticipation of capital improvements. The "new" commuter lot is now located across University Circle on the land that used to consist of Mt. Sinia Hospital. The hospital was purchased by Case a few years ago and mostly knocked down.
The long and short of this is that the lot is (1) far far far away and (2) not nearly as safe as the previous lots were. People who park there will have to take a "shuttle" to and from campus.
Unfortunately, if you want ANY shot at all of getting one of the closer lots, you have to reserve it in person at "access services" in Crawford Hall. But, because you are not yet registered for classes, they will only sell you a spot if you have a special letter from the med school office of the registrar indicating that you are attending, and going to register and pay tuition. I was at the office earlier in the week. I asked for one of these letters, and the guy typed up a template in anticipation of further requests. Unfortunately, you'll have to pick the letter and register to reserve your spot in person.
I have no idea if any closer-in spots are left. But if there are any, you should reserve them now rather than later.

Hey Judd,
Question and update about parking here...
is 53 a good lot?
It seems to be right across from campus (an in a garage no less) but 68$ a month.
We now can / have to reserve the spot online at http://parking.case.edu . It needs our Last name and our social security number for id.
Also, a packet was sent out yesterday from the admin office... Don't know what's in it, but it's comming.

Yeah...I just reserved a spot in 53 as well. It looks to be right across the street from the medical campus.

i went to cleveland this weekend and ending up signing a lease at an apartment near coventry. the area seemed really nice, with a lot of bookstores, record shops, restaurants, and a live music venue within a block of it. i walked to the med school from there and it took about 25 minutes, but i understand that there's a shuttle that goes by there on the way to CWRU.
There was another 1 BR apartment available in the same building- if this sounds good to you, PM me and i'll give you the landlords phone number.

It seems as though i'm going to end up in Cleveland this fall too. I haven't really started looking for apts as of yet but i'm planning on making a trip to cleveland in early july to look around. Are most people on this board going to be living alone or is anyone looking for a roomate? I am most probably going to end up looking at one bedrooms and studios when i start looking but was wondering if there's a resource for new students to find roomates. If anyone on this board is looking for a roomate or knows of anyone looking for one let me know....
