You work at a hospital, where you are in charge of loaning wheelchairs to patients for use in the hospital. A man with no visible physical disability takes the last one.

  1. What are your thoughts on the man's actions?
  2. Should you intervene?
  3. How can society be more inclusive to disabled people?

1. One's bias of this situation may think that the person is being lazy, however they could be in extreme pain or have some other issue such as dizziness. They may also be retrieving the wheelchair for someone else.

2. Unlikely, unless I had more information to go on (maybe he was joking about stealing a wheelchair to his friend), or if there were standard operating procedures for this type of situation that I would be responsible for executing.

3. Broad-spectrum education! Teaching in our schools about unseen disabilities can positively affect disabled people by them not having to deal with people who automatically assume worst intent.
