yeah i was looking at oak park.....it seems that the avg rent in oak park and pretty much every where else is around 1000...yeah?....well im thinking that im definately going to have to take a trip out there sometime late spring to actually go check places out. The internet is only so good at depicting places, ya know.

Yep. I'm heading out there in three weeks to lock down a place. Here's hoping things go smoothly... Now they won't 🙂

If the rent is $1000 it darn well better include utilities and be a nice place. Oak Park is no Lincoln Park or Wrigleyville. Though I can't claim to be an expert on the subject so who knows.
you're heading west, out of the city, when everyone's trying to go east.

There is a bit of a reverse commute of people from the city to the suburbs. This would be more of an issue if you lived in the city as opposed to in Oak Park, where I imagine it wouldn't be as bad. I could see a 20 min travel time as accurate.

Edit: Just got my interview invite two days ago. I'm pumped--live in the area so I took advice from earlier on the thread and called them to try to move it up.

i called the admissions office today and they said the committee met yeterday. But they said we have to wait 3 days for the decisions to be released to the public. So I am thinking we will get our results by the end of the next week.

just called CCOM and I was told I was accepted. I was interviewed on 1/28. They said that I should also expect a call on Monday as well. The acceptance status was changed today.

That's kinda weird that they wouldn't tell you anything about the decision earlier today, and then a few hours later, told you that you were accepted!! Good news anyways! Congrats!! :hardy:

I called them in the morning, they told me the same thing. Then I called late in the afternoon and I explained my circustances that I needed to know it ASAP. The lady was nice enough to tell me. I will post if interact now changes for me.

I also interviewed on the 28th. Hope I have the same luck as you. Congrats! :hardy:

the interact now has not changed yet, might change on Monday.

The interact account main page may not have changed, but for those of you who were accepted to AZCOM, sign on to online.midwestern.edu using your username and password that AZCOM gave you.

I went on there last night to look at some financial aid stuff and in doing so found out that I was also accepted to CCOM. Good luck to the rest of you:luck:

Crt428: Where did you find it on the online.midwestern.edu site? I'm not finding anything.

where can i find my student id number?

how do i go about setting up my interact now account?
i've never used it
i have an interview there in march
help?

^^^ student ID number is supposed to be in the snail letter that MWU sent to you early in the application.

Crt428: Where did you find it on the online.midwestern.edu site? I'm not finding anything.

The only way you'll find anything is if you can actually sign in to online.midwestern.edu. The only way you can actually sign in is if you've already been accepted into one of the Midwestern schools already (in this case probably AZCOM seeing as you don't know about CCOM yet). In that case you would use your student id # (which, as mclovin has already stated, they sent to you in the mail) and password that AZCOM gave you in your acceptance letter. This password is completely different from your interact now password too.

Once you've signed in, just click on the accepted student checklist tab, and for me a screen came up that said "you've been accepted into more than one program at Midwestern", and asks you to choose whether you want to select IL or AZ.

i am so completely jealous.. Ive already written 2 LOIs and called and emailed plenty.. but nothing 🙁

I have 3 questions about CCOM..

1) What is the curriculum at CCOM like?
I know it's pretty much the traditional curriculum with separate classes for biochem, immuno, anatomy, etc. But are these classes integrated somehow? Do you learn about the same system/organ in each of these classes simultaneously? Just wondering because I really prefer a systems based approach.

2) Also, since there are quizzes/exams every week, do you feel like you are just memorizing material for the exams and then forgetting it? The curriculum seems to be much like college or high school curriculum. I feel like as a student there, I may not be able to learn the material well enough.

3) Where do CCOM students do their core rotations? Can you do them at Rush, Loyola, etc or are most of them at Olympia Fields?

Thanks in advance!

I'm in!! Just called and asked. Now the dreaded decision between CCOM and KCOM. Don't get me wrong, it's a great problem to have, but still a tough one.

It is not a systems based approach. We do not have exams/quizzes every week. We have quizzes every week in biochem. Exams are every 2-5 weeks in each class. We have 3 per quarter in Anatomy and Histo. Two in biochem, psyc, and 4 in physio. I do not feel as if I am learning for the exam. You have to take the things you have learned to the next exam and to other classes.

Our rotations are all over Chicago. We have a great rotation choice.

congrats! I think I am going to CCOM. I am actually still deciding between KCUMB, Western and CCOM. So far, I am deciding against Western because they had like 70% people going into primary care. So it is between CCOM and KCUMB. Then I decided to try to live in a big city, so I ended up with CCOM.

Any ideas when the official letters are sent out?

Hey everyone, I was just wondering if anyone's interact now accounts have yet to change?

I tried calling and she said that I would have to call back Wednesday to find out? She didn't ask my name or anything... Ugh!
How did all of you find out?
I was accepted to AZCOM and nothing poped up on that site are the student IDs the same from both schools? So now I'm worried (well kind of... I haven't been able to decide where I want to go yet).
I guess if I don't get in that will at least narrow my choices 🙄

It is always nice to have choices. Itseems like a lot of people have been calling so maybe they just decided to put a stop on that, not really sure though. The student IDs and passwords are the same for both schools, but I wouldn't worry too much because seeing as the interactNows aren't even changed yet, it's possible that not everyone's online.midwestern.edu homepage has been changed. Perhaps that's why they're making everyone else wait till Wednesday to find out too. This is all purely speculative so who knows what's really going on.

Good luck though, are you still considering AZCOM? I was but I like how CCOM's rotations were very established and allowed you to stay in Chicago the entire time (whereas sometimes at AZCOM you have to go to regional sites not in the phoenix area), plus their matchlist rocks. Chicago isn't so shabby either😉

I am still between AZCOM, CCOM (pending), and LECOM-B. CCOM is closer to home for me and yes seems to have better overall rotations, but AZCOM was soo friendly and seemed the most willing to let me take time for an MPH...I wouldn't mind getting away from this weather either (its much easier to get up early when its warm). Then I loved LECOMs PBL I think I'd actually start to feel like a doctor after the first year.

Yeah I had a similar dilemma as you. I absolutely loved the environment at AZCOM (plus coming from Boston in December the climate was certainly a welcome change!😎), any of the faculty and students I had contact with were so welcoming and helpful, and all the people I interviewed with were so cool. I was also really impressed with the dean's presentation so was definitely convinced I'd come out of there with a solid education.

For me it came more down to personal reasons. My boyfriend is moving with me and will be applying to law school next year, and there's only 1 law school in the phoenix area compared to 4 or 5 in the chicago area. I did also have a great experience at CCOM and was really impressed by the match list and the clinical rotations, so I knew I couldn't really go wrong. I've been in Boston my entire life so I'm psyched to try out a new city for a while🙂

Good luck with your decision!

If im not mistaken, there is a minimum of 1 test each week not counting the first few weeks...correct?...and there are like a total of 15-20 tests per quarter

We had a quiz in biochem every week, but not an exam every week. There were some weeks that we had 0 exams, but some that we had 5 or more (including practicals and writtens). We had 20 exams in winter quarter. That is including all practicals and writtens and online exams. When you break down the information that is given to us and the number of exams we have...it is not excessive to have this many exams. I really don't know how many exams other schools have, but surely they must be pretty comparable.

Also, this is based on my first year (this year) I do not know of any minimum exam requirement in the past or for the future classes, but I guess it is possible.

Good Luck to you all. If you have any questions just ask, I will be happy to answer.

Just wrote my third LOI, this one to the dean, since I met her before.. hrm. I figure, it can't hurt at this point.

The dean sent a 4 word reply. well. at least she got it. who knows if she read it.

Well I usually send a hard copy first, and email it to ensure its delivery. So.. I dont know because I do both..

is it best to email LOIs?

prions and I both e-mailed LOIs (hers was a LOInterest, I believe, and mine was an LOIntent). We both got interviews at the schools and she was accepted. I'm thinking it can't hurt.

Question for recent interviewees

i keep getting the run around on how long the evaluation process there takes to complete (i have been complete for a month and a half now)

i was just wondering for those of you who recently interviewed when you application was complete?

or for those of you who did interview how long it was between your application being complete and an interview offer?

also, general opinions welcome. i already sent one letter of interest. i was planning on sending another one that was basically a veiled letter of intent since if i interview there and i get accepted there i am going there without a doubt. good idea or no??

I wish I had that kind of luck!! Three LOI's and no interview yet!! 🙁

any idea how full the class is? I just yesterday received a letter stating that my app was complete (there was a mixup with my committee letter). Good luck to everyone

To address some questions:

I was complete 10.26, interviewed 1.28, and called them and found out i was accepted yesterday (2.26), so there process is very slow!

I am soooooo excited and pretty surprised that I got in (I was getting pretty nervous) and I am going to be canceling my application to CCOM AZCOM (I interviewed 2.25 so I will happily give my spot to someone else) and will be pulling out of (and loosing $2000 which totally sucks) Touro San Fran.

Good luck to everyone!!!

that is a link i posted a while ago about their core rotation sites...many ccom students do electives at uic, loyola, cook, rush, and other big hospitals in chicago...ive heard few ccom do rotations at northwestern or university of chicago because from what i hear, pd's there are not too fond of DO's, thats what iver heard from current ms3/ms4 students

Hey guys, my interact now has changed. The page now has white background. Instead of applications checklist, now there is matriculation checklist. There is also a message from the president.

I was getting nervious since I live in midwest area but did not get any letters from them yet.

the only thing present's message does not appear again after I played it. Sorry, I missed, it is not available anymore. Is there anything important in it?

Last year I was accepted before Christmas and think the full $1000 was due by Dec 14th. I do not know about this year though
