Woah. I was under the impression that there'd be more. Now I'm wondering whether or not CCOM is friendly to OOS applicants, especially CA people. I did a search, but couldn't really find anything substantial. Can you maybe tell me more more about the statistical likelihood of CA residents getting into CCOM?

It's a private school. I'd say if there was only 5 people in the class from the West, it's indicative of how many people from the west applied, wanted to go there, etc opposed to some bias.

I agree, I think just such a large number of people from the Midwest apply to CCOM so naturally it overshadows other states. Their website says 58% of last years class was from Illinois.

While many of the practicing DOs in my area, save for a couple, are CCOM grads and I am sure CCOM likes to get people who will stay in the area, considering the school's rep and reading over their mission statement, etc. there is really nothing hugely indicative that there is a significant bias, if any. Plus, taking the profiles on mdapplicants.com at face value, plenty of people over the years from all over the country have reported CCOM acceptances or at least interviews.

On another note...anyone tried to contact CCOM today by phone and have trouble getting through? Maybe it's just me. I was trying to ask them when they plan on sending out invites.

My guess? Most of the CA acceptants also applied to AZCOM and picked it for the weather.

I might be the only person from CA who actually favors CCOM over AZCOM at the moment.

So, I was wandering around the Midwestern U applicant web-site (the one we used to fill out the secondary). And, I clicked on interview scheduling. The CCOM section seems to have changed. It says "Not Scheduled" and "No Dates available". But, that wasn't there last week. So...

My guess is that the admissions office is getting set to send out interview dates ( i hope :xf:)

I just checked the applicant site too, and this is the msg I got:

"You have been invited to interview with the following program(s).
Confirmation will be sent to: email@gmail.com"

Then the message below says:

"No dates available.
You will be notified when more
dates are made available."

awesome! everyone check your status pages!

got same message too, hope we are first batch! scheduling is up!

Grrrr!!! Just got to Erie for my interview about an hour ago. Sadly, no CCOM invite yet for me. I think my GPA may be a little low for them but my MCAT is solid. We'll see.

Just staying psyched for tommorrow.

For those who got an interview invite, congrats! when were you guys complete?

I finished my application the second week of july, and i just got my interview invite today, and will be interviewing on the 28th of september...

GOOD LUCK!

does CCOM have research facilities on site? and also, is it mostly PBL or traditional lectures?

There are definitely research opportunities available especially since the biomedical science program requires it and I do believe they're on campus.

Most classes are traditional lectures although biochem is heavily team based learning. We work in assigned biochem groups to solve assignment problems (Team Application Exercises) that are based on class notes. We also have team tests in addition to individual ones (at least in Biochem 1500).

does anyone know if interview invites go out everyday for CCOM...or is it only certain days of the week?

do all LOR's have to be submitted before being "complete?"

Congrats to all of those who got interviews!!!

They do not go out daily, but seriously be on the look out like hourly for them... they sometimes show up in your email at 1:30 am and you want to be fast to get yours scheduled or all the dates could be filled and you will have to wait until they make more available. My suggestion... INTERVIEW AS EARLY AS POSSIBLE. The class is mostly filled by december.
as for the percentages of everything that I know
Apply: 5,000-6,000
Interviews: 600 about
Acceptance: 240ish
Waitlist:160ish

the class size is set at 200.

Does anyone have the Sept 18th interview?! Thats the one I have... it would be nice to know people to chat with while we are all stuck in that room together 🙂

Interviews: Consist of you, a 4th year student, and a doctor. They last for 30 minutes....

as for the rest of you waiting for interviews. GOOD LUCK!!! im sure you will get yours soon 🙂

Yea I have my interview on the 18th also. Do you know what questions they ask?

I've been complete here since July 9th. Still no word. They told me via email that "All files can be at different points in the process and it depends on the outcome of the review". This is what they told me in response to an inquiry on my file.

Doesnt sound good.

Well, if I get an invite, I'll swap ya for UNECOM😀

does anyone know if they have a student host program at CCOM for interviewees?

Wherever you apply to try to interview as early as possible because most schools have rolling admissions. Some schools meet weekly to discuss candidates that have been interviewed, some do monthly. I believe CCOM is monthly. Interviews are closed file, meaning they don't have your gpa or MCAT scores. They will have your secondary application and I believe parts of your primary. Review those and be prepared to answer specific questions from your application. Otherwise, SDN has a section where people can rate/post interview questions they had so be sure to check out those from last year. Interviews can last anywhere between 20-40 minutes and you can have anywhere from 1 to 3 interviewers. Typically, they like to get a student, a faculty member, and a doctor in there but I personally had a 3rd year, a 4th year, and a doctor. Others had only a doctor or a faculty member and a student.

Does Midwestern have a systems based learning approach? By this I mean do you learn about the heart in physio, look at cardiac tissue in histo, and dissect at at the sames time in anatomy?

Anyone interviewing on Sept 28th? and how have you been preparing? I have a mock medical school interview scheduled at my undergrad school, and then am also going over common questions to start formulating answers. I am just wondering what else i should do...

GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE!

It's a traditional curriculum so not systems based in the normal sense. However a lot of what we learn they try to coordinate to relate to each other. For instance we might learn about some aspects of cardiology in biochem while learning about it in histology as well. But since we are just starting anatomy we won't get to the heart until later this year. We also won't be taking physiology (the course) until second year.

I keep getting offered dates that I can't attend!!! Do they do interviews any other days than Fridays and Tuesdays??

RoxieDog... I'm there on the 28th as well... preparing as usual.. reviewing the apps and prep with the usual questions....

Not to sound patronizing but interviewing should be a TOP priority just because of how the whole process works. If it has to do with certain classes, talk to your professors. Most will be accomodating for med school interviews.

Is anyone interviewing on Sept. 29th?

SenseiDoc19... sorry it took me so long to get back. Well last year my two interviewers were really nice. When you first walk in they ask you about your understand of osteopathic medicine. Then they start looking at your secondary.. and ask you questions about your resume. They also asked what I thought would be the biggest challenge being a doctor. and then we talked a lot about yoga hahaha

if someone just tried to chat with me... I am sorry I closed the pop-up thinking it was spam... 🙁

Hope everyones interviews go well!!!!

I work full-time and there are certain things that cannot be changed regarding my schedule. Thanks for your advice.

I just wanted to get everyones thoughts of my chances at CCOM. Its like my #1 school right now (I know that can change).

GPA-3.84
MCAT-25Q (PS-7, VR-8, BS-10)

I have decent EC's and a good LOR from a DO.

Thanks, I hope I can get an interview and kill it from there 🙂

Do you mind me asking why this school #1 over MSU COM? I know its a really good school, but since you're already MSU I figured you may want to stay in-state. I'm just asking because I have interview here but I also applied to MSU COM.

Though I LOVED MSU, I'm not completly sure I want to stay in the same setting for another 4 years is the first thing. Next MSUCOM really pushes primary care, and though Im not opposed to going into primary care I want to be able to rotate through a variety of specialties in a large metropolitan setting and CCOM can offer that. If you have anymore questions feel free to PM me. But have no concern MSU is an AWESOME school.

plus MSU is a total ripoff for OOSers. 65k/year just for tuition? are you kidding me? you can't get michigan residency after one year, either. it takes 3 years! **** that!

also, don't be fooled by MSU's #7 primary care ranking. it means nothing. that ranking is mainly based on the % of med students from that school going into primary care. that's it. you can go into primary care from any school. I would DEFINITELY go to CCOM over MSU.

I have similar stats to yours and CCOM is my #1 choice as well! I applied to MSUCOM too...that would def be my 2nd choice. But I am from Chicago and want to stay here...I hope we get an invite soon!!

Yeah I think both of you will get interview invites. The thing that sucks about CCOM is you only have a 50% chance of acceptance post-interview, unlike some of the other schools where the statistics are in your favor off the bat. Just puts some added pressure on you if you really wana go here

Could someone help me with what a CV should look like or be set up like. I dont know how much detail to put into each individual thing I did. For example:

EDUCATION

Michigan State University; East Lansing, Michigan
Bachelor of Science in Physiology 2008

Baker College; Owosso, Michigan
Certified Nurses Aide Certification

Thats what I have in there but I dont know if there should be more information along with them? If someone would help this lost soul out haha it would be much appreciated. A PM of yours as a template would be awesome 🙂

google CV's / Resume's for tons of examples.

so I have been complete since 8/26...CCOM is my top choice and i check my email like 10 times a day for an invite! i'm getting very anxious...when is it time to start worrying/call the admissions office??

ive just been verified through aacomas (last night). Does ccom send a secondary to everyone or do they screen? If they do send one to everyone, how long does it normally take?

Does anyone know how quickly CCOM will turn around a response after interviews? The reason I ask (aside from trying to spare my sanity!) is that I'm trying to navigate the balance act of acceptances and deposit requirements for turn around times... Thanks a bunch!!!

Give it at least 2 more weeks to a month... then call to check to see if there's anything missing. Otherwise it's not good to badger an admissions office because you're impatient...
