Hi all,

To what extent do we have to know glycolysis and cell respiration?

You should be familiar with all of that... you may not need to know the exact number of atp produced, but definitely understand the pathway.

The important things to know about glycolysis, or any other pathway includes understanding what key enzymes are involved and their function.. For example, what a kinase ,dehydrogenase, or isomerase will do. Also be familiar what the overall goal is.... For example.....in glycolysis a glucose molecule is oxidized and converted into pyruvate. Be familiar where these reactions occur,,,,,,such as in cytosol, mitochondrial matrix, etc. No need to memorize the entire pathway. Understand cycles such as glycolysis are anaerobic...while Krebs and Electron Transport System are aerobic. Understanding that pyruvate undergoes an oxidative decarboxylation and converts into Acetyl Co A gives you a nice understanding of the importance of biological transformation.

Hope this helps.

Glad we could help, if you have another question in the future feel free to post and we will respond!

Good luck in your studies!
Hi orgoman,

I am confused about the difference between Systematics versus Cladistics and Phylogeny versus Cladogram

Thanks a bunch :)
