Challenge/adversity essays?

Hello all! I’m struggling with writing my challenge/adversity essays because I’m not sure what to write about. I was thinking of discussing a family disruption that occurred when I was 9 and lasted until I was about 19, but was worried that I shouldn’t because it happened before undergrad. Does it matter or am I overthinking it? Also, how should I approach the challenge and adversity essays differently? Thanks in advance!
