(1) early hard condition in my home country when I was young. 10 people in one dorm, had to study in the corridor when lights were off even in winter.
(2) difficulty with lab course during freshman year, refused to give up, tried hard, did well later on
(3) Loss of baby because of abnormality, did abortion, went through unsucessful procedure, a little bit controversial
(4) difficulty (very difficult) in breastfeeding for half a year when I was busy with my paper, did not give up, finally went through.

Which one is better? Thanks.

Number 1 seems like the best. It shows that you had dedication under unique and difficult circumstances. Number 2 seems a little standard/bland when you have some interesting things to write about. Three and four could be good for the right people, but you might want to steer clear of such controversial topics, when you might have a conservative reader. Good luck!

I think 1 and 3 are the most unique. Don't go with 2.
