Hey
I've heard that there are some classes that can be challenged in the first year of dental school. I haven't heard too much, but if any of you could fill me in about this that would be great. I think that it would be wonderful not to have to worry about a class or two the first year.

I know at UCSF that the Biochemistry clas in the first year of Dental School can be challenged(sort of) by taking a preliminary exam. You can keep your score on the comprehensive exam as your grade for the course. If you don't do to well, you will have to take the course. That is the only course I have heard about. It depends which school you are asking about also. Post up folks.

UCSF: histology and biochem

The vast majority of schools don't allow students to challenge classes based on the following two presumptions:

1) You need the course in the manner it is taught in dental school, regardless of your knowledge prior to the course and 2) everybody is stuck with the courses, so all students are on a level playing field as far as workload intensity.

At Tufts you could take an Exemption test for Physiology

can test out of histology, biochem, and physiology at OHSU. Need a year of each course during undergrad with a decent grade in it in order to test out. There were a few students that had the course requirements and aced the test out exam but still had to take the course because they got B's in their undergrad course.
