So in highschool, i didn't try as hard as i could of (87 gpa) and got myself into a community college. I did get into a university however i couldn't attend it because it was way to expensive and decided to go to a cc first and then transfer into a 4 year public college since i didn't get in the first time around.

I didn't start CC in the best way, i got a b+ in general biology because i was caught up on finding the right study habits that work for me.

Anyway, to make it brief, I really want to become a doctor, I want to have the knowledge and everything about being a doctor excites me. But since I didn't start of as good, do I have a shot at getting into medical school? I am working my hardest and will be shadowing/volunteering & more during my undergraduate years but how are my chances looking starting off the way i did? Theres just so much pre med students out there, who started off at amazing universities and 4.0 gpa's, when I just compare myself to whats out there, I am left so hopeless inside.

I just want someone to be honest with me about my chances at getting in? I have seen a lot of different forums and none of them seemed to match my situation.

Please help! Thank you for your time in advance!!! I really, really do appreciate it. Thank you!

You're fine. Just focus on doing your best in your classes as well as starting your ECs. You are very early in the journey.

You're fine, the fact that you didn't get a 4.0 your first year in college is representative of who you will become in your senior year when you're seeking to further your education in pursuance of medicine.

That being said, just make sure to do well from here on out. Try to maintain a GPA of 3.6-3.7 or higher along with establishing good extracurricular activities. Note that volunteering or being involved consistently over a span of years is much preferred over doing it all at once in a short period of time.

If you're truly determined to become a physician, then you will eventually become one - however, attending medical school and becoming a physician is a privilege, not a right, so you must do everything that you can and pave your way towards your future.

People do it all the time. Probably 60% or more of my credit hours are from CC. When you bankroll your own education that's life.

Will start in the fall and had no issues when interviewing. Just be very strategic about taking upper levels at your university just to completely squash any doubt.

Thanks for your reply! Assured me that someone has gone through what I am going through and made it. Best of luck to you!!
