Chances in the east?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I really want to go to med school somewhere along the East Coast...like in the states of Virginia, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Maryland, D.C. New York or New Jersey. I think my chances aren't that bad if I apply to a bunch of med schools on that side (of course, I'd have to maintain my GPA and balance EC's and all) What do you think?

Let's say I had a 3.7 overall GPA and a 3.6 sGPA and lots of shadowing and volunteering experiences... do I have fairly good chances?
Of course you would! There's a ton of schools on the east coast, as long as you're not too picky about where exactly. Two schools in D.C., 3 in Boston, a bunch in NY and PA, NC. Are you applying this cycle?

Not this cycle, but the next. Okay, because that's really where I want to end up for med school! I wouldn't want to go live far away in like California when I live on the East side =/
I understand that. What about Midwest or South? Places that would be a pretty quick plane ride from the East Coat? Cause there's a lot more schools if you open yourself up to that. But, CA, WA and OR are all quite competitive if you're OOS (especially CA), so, you most likely won't be applying to many West coast schools anyway.

I think you've definitely got a good chance! I'm applying this cycle and out of the ~20 schools I'm applying to, only four aren't on the east coast. We have a ton of schools over here, and they have a wide range of selectivities, so I'd say it's definitely doable to apply broadly on the East Coast and have a good chance of acceptance somewhere! 🙂

without an mcat score those numbers could be good or enough or they could be not good enough.

also including New jersey and Virginia but leaving out Massachusetts is probably goin to get you in trouble with the juju of the East, might as well not even try at this point
