Wondering what my chances are to get into MD and DO schools. I took my MCAT in August 2017, and got my score back in September 2017. I decided to wait to apply early in 2018 versus applying late in 2017 cycle.

My MCAT score is a 508. 127 psych, 127 CARS, 125 Chem, 129 Bio.

My overall GPA is 3.56. (a few bad classes (B's and one C) freshman year brought this down. My junior and senior year both semesters I received a 4.0 even.

I am planning to apply to mostly MD schools, and maybe one or two DO schools.

Here is my tentative list so far:
New York Medical College
Tufts University School of Medicine
University of Vermont College of Medicine
University of Massachusetts Medical School
Albany Medical College
Frank H. Netter School of Medicine at Quinnipiac
Wake Forest School of Medicine
Boston University School of Medicine
University of Connecticut School of Medicine
Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth
Pennsylvania State University College of Medicine
Drexel University College of Medicine
Georgetown University School of Medicine

DO School: University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine

I'm really open to switching or adding any schools, as I am currently doing more research on them.

What are your EC's? Do you have any clinical volunteering hours or shadowing hours? Where is your state of residence?

I’m from New Hampshire. I went to undergrad in Mass. I was a member of the cheerleading team, dance club, and was a TA for organic chem and cell bio. I have shadowing experience with a primary care physician in NH, volunteer experience at Boston Children’s, and currently work as a medical Scribe in the emergency department for the last 6 months.

Thank you for your reply!!!

UMass and UConn accept very few non residents with your stats. BU and Dartmouth are reaches with your stats. The other schools on your list are fine but I suggest adding many more and consider all these:
Temple
Jefferson
George Washington
Oakland Beaumont
Western Michigan
Medical College Wisconsin
Rosalind Franklin
St. Louis
Creighton
NOVA MD
any new schools that may open for 2019 (Seton Hall, Kaiser, Roseman)
Also add several more DO schools and you are competitive for all DO schools.

Thank you so much for all the suggestions! I’m the first in my family to even go to undergrad college so this is all new to all of us!

Rosy Franklin
Drexel
Temple
MCW
SLU
WVU
Jefferson
Tulane
Loyola
Wake Forest
Loma Linda (only if you are SDA or a very devout Christian)
VCU
Netter
EVMS
Oakland-B
Gtown
GWU
Uniformed Services University/Hebert (just be aware of the military service commitment)

Any DO program. I can't recommend Touro-NY, Nova or LUCOM, for different reasons

Why can't you recommend Touro NY , Nova or LUCOM? What are the reasons?

Why not these schools?

Nova: three consecutive years of declining first-time COMLEX pass rates. They're now at ~85% and this is something you expect from a new school, not a veteran. Something is very wrong there.

Wm Carey: VERY high attrition rates and only a 92% placement rate for their Class of 2018. That means 8% of their grads are now unemployed, NOT doing residency. No SOAP, no scramble, no TRI. This is simply NOT acceptable. I expect they'll be put on probation very soon.

Touro-NY: Poor COMLEX II pass rates; unethical behavior in how they dealt with an overbooking issue two years ago.

LUCOM: I have a profound distaste for the politics of their parent organization; their Faculty make blatant attempts to twist facts to match their theology.

From the wise gyngyn: Liberty is poorly regarded due to the history of intolerance of their founding fathers. This school's reputation for intolerance puts its grads at a disadvantage at many reputable residency programs.
