Hey,

I want to know if somebody has gone through the entire changing mailing address ordeal on AMCAS. My question has to do with changes I make at AMCAS. Many secondary applications websites say that "any changes to contact information must originate via AMCAS." I'm wondering what the delay in updating their information is from AMCAS.

Also, how reliable is the mail forwarding thing from the postal service?

Thanks guys. I'm moving in a few weeks so any advice would be much appreciated.

I had to change my preferred mailing address with AMCAS and all I can say is do it immediately. Even if you change it today, you will still receive mail at your old address for the next few weeks. This is because schools download updated information every couple weeks or whenever they are making a move on your application. I will say that changing your address is nightmarish because AMCAS does not notify schools of the change - it is up to the schools to find out for themselves. Also, email or call each school. Some of them will tell you to go through AMCAS but do it anyway - and follow up several times until you get an answer. Don't rely on the postal service. I have never had any success doing that. Its a bit of extra work to contact schools and stuff but otherwise, you may loose valuble correspondence.

At best forwarding your mail via USPS can take upwards of 1 week. At worst, you can submit the change of address 3 times and still not get any forwarded mail (this is happening to me right now, luckily with an address that I never used for AMCAS). I think it really depends on the post office (the post office that handles the address that you are moving FROM). I would recommend doing it ASAP and changing your address via email or phone with all of the med schools you applied to...just to reinforce the AMCAS change.

Personally, I wish all schools used email/internet to contact applicants. I've had a number of snafus with my mail at my new address and am now paranoid that I am not getting med school correspondance.

Best of luck. :luck:

I've already made the change on AMCAS.

Are there any other experiences or horror stories about lost mail because of this?
