What is the best way to seek out and apply for open PGY-2 spots for next July?
A reason one friend has brought up to me is that after several months on the job as a PGY 1, they realize their attending surgeons have poor surgical outcomes/skills and are interested in finding someone to train with that has better technique and better results.

Have your friend call the CPME and the CASPR/CRIP people. They would probably be the best resource for what he/she is seeking. They have the data on what programs have what positions available.

Tough situation for sure. I had some colleagues in a similar situation in residency and even though its tough to handle they stuck it through as a bird in hand, blah, blah.

Are there no attendings there that your friend is more comfortable with and would spend the majority of their time working with? I hate to hear these types of situations come up.
