So, my wife and I will be moving out to dental school this summer. We'll be moving from Las Vegas to San Francisco. We have furniture and are looking for the cheapest way to move. Renting a truck seems like it might be really expensive if you add in the amount of gas required. Does anyone have cheap ways to move an apartment of stuff? Thanks!!

I have a sister and a couple buddies that moved to the East coast from CA, and they found it was cheaper to have the stuff shipped there. They used a service from ABF called U-pack. Here's the link:

I'm not sure if it's still the best option, but it is an option.

As for my family, we just got a u-haul and a trailer and drove the ten hours w/ two pickups.

I will be going through the same experience this coming June. My wife and I decided to sell all of our furniture and buy everything again when we get there. It is going to save us ~$3000 in moving costs which can buy quite a bit of the IKEA-type furniture most people use. This also greatly reduces the physical stress of the move and allows us to get furniture more properly suited to our new house.

In the grand scheme of things the cost of moving is minimal, don't lose perspective on the big picture.
