I was also placed on the alternate list earlier today.

No school accepts those on the waiting list based on last name order. They have a method for averaging pcat, recommendations, interview, volunteer service, GPA, Ec's together. They would then go from the highest score towards the bottom as spaces become available. I hope this helps you.

I also got the alternate list e-mail. Does anyone know whether they place everyone they interviewed, but did not accept, on the alternate list, or whether the alternate list is a group of selected individuals. If it is the latter, then this may not be a bad thing as many people do get accepted from the alternate list. I anticipate that at least 10 applicants may be accepted from the alternate list for Fall 2009. The e-mail did not state whether the alternate list is ranked or not, so this is also a mystery.

The alternate list is for individuals who are qualified, but have to wait for vaccancies in the class, and many people end up beign removed from the alternate list into the class. That is why there is an alternate list. Some people who were interviewed were denied admission and were not even put on the alternate list. So even being on the alternate list rekindles some hope. So lets just keep on hoping!!!:xf:

it really worries me that the alternate list is not ranked. :scared: i'm wondering if they've accepted more than "87" students anticipating that a few would turn down the offer so that, ultimately, the class will boil down to about "87" students. if this is the case, the alternate list may never move. let's keep hoping guys.

I would guess they have accepted a little more than 87 students in anticipation of some candidates turning it down. Most schools do that. Iowa told me that last year they accepted like 140 kids for a 110 person class. And then they pulled a few off of their alternate list. I would guess CSU does the same thing. I'm on it too, so here's to hoping.

I think what Iowa meant (or what any school means) is that they accepted a total of x number of students for y number of spots (unless they flat out tell you otherwise). I'm not sure it would be in the school's best interest to accept that many students for less amount of spots. If in the scenario that say 160 acceptances were given for 100 spots and 105 decide to attend, what would be the plan of action then? Would they accept the extra 5 students or do they tell them that there are not enough spots?

I believe that CSU has accepted the "87" students and keeps the alternate list just in case some of those students decline acceptances. Whether it is ranked or not is another story, but it's an interesting methodology and only the committee and students know. I did some research and here's more info on how the alternate list works. (When I read that some schools don't rank their alternate lists I was shocked. I don't know if that's a good or bad thing) I wish everyone the best of luck, especially you Ivy:luck:!!!:

awwwww thanks for the shout out 🙂

Guys I still do not get this,, from what I understand that people placed on the waiting list are already accepted to the school but they just need a seat to be filled in, I do think that they are done with reviewing our applications, right? if not..what is the difference between HOLD and a waiting list? and what is the criteria for seating or choosing which person is next? is it in the hands of the dean now ?

Hold- they continue reviewing your application until the come to a decision. I got a hold email saying that they will continually review my application, and a decision would be made no later than May 15th. They made a decision on my application, therefore i was put on the alternate list. Since you didn't get a hold email they automatically made a decision on your application and that is why you got the alternate email... Hope this helps

you are confusing me man,,,i got the hold email too..and i think being on the alternate list is not as bad as the hold..i think its just a matter of a well qualified applicant drop his seat so we can fill it in...still not sure:scared:

The biggest question for me is whether or not the alternate list is ranked. The alternate list e-mail did not mention anything regarding this. If it is not, then I wonder how they would decide who to accept; perhaps they decide by randomly selecting names from the alternate list. Can anyone provide information regarding this?

Your description of the alternate list is correct. A "hold" is when the admissions committee has not yet made a decision concerning your application; the 3 options being acceptance, alternate list, or denial. For the people on the alternate list, they have reviewed their applications and have decided to place them on the alternate list from the 3 options listed above. This is not really a bad thing as many people do get accepted from the alternate list; it only depends on the number of people who decide to decline the acceptance offer. My main issue, however, is whether the list is ranked or not because if it is ranked, then some people will have a much better chance of gaining acceptance than others.

i had emailed the school about this. amalia confirmed that, as of now, the adcom has NOT ranked the alternate list. if and when they do, she said she'll notify us via email.

yikes.....

Thanks for the information IvyFox.

Yikes indeed.

amalia just emailed everyone saying that the alternate list will be ranked. i'm hoping this implies that enough people have turned down their admission offer and the school will soon be pulling people from the alternate list :luck:

Check your emails guys, amalia just sent out emails concerning the alternate list. It explains that the alternate list is ranked already, but they will not let us know. So read the email and hope this answers many questions. I feel very hopeful, because this alternate list thing is seeming more promising, so let's just hope!

Does anybody know how many people are on the alternate list?

Well ...I got the email too, this waiting game is killing me...but I still have some confusion about ...

- admcom will rank us based on what ?
- How soon we will hear from them ?
- how many students they have accepted so far?

based on the people here on this forum, I would say there are about 10 people got the alternate list..maybe more outside this forum...I do not know...Good luck everyone 🙂

👍
Another question to address is whether any applicants have been rejected yet? If all the applicants, who have yet to be accepted, been put on the alternate list, then it is more competitive. I hope for the people on this forum, that is not the case. Best wishes

As far as ranking goes, I'm pretty sure the admissions committee will meet and make a unanimous decision based on your gpa, PCAT, Extra curricular activities, your interview and any other impressive assets that set you above the rest of the application pool. Ranking can be a somewhat complex matter as they will have to take all these factors into consideration when deciding on their future classes but I can assure you that all of you who are on the alternate list have qualities that the admissions committee is looking for. The only barrier between you and matriculation may be how well you stood out in the interview amongst other things.

How soon will you hear from them? It's usually a waiting game you ujust have to stick out. Depending on when other admitted students decline their acceptances you could hear from them next week or the week after. The actual number of individuals on the alertnate list, however, remains a mystery, but you cannot spend time thinking about that right now. What I can say is that many applicants have already been rejected. Many other individuals who were placed on hold in March may or may not be on the alternate list along with you, so fret not in that regard. Keep your heads up guys, it isn't over yet. Best wishes to everyone👍

I'm afraid the waiting game is going to be a while. I received my acceptance email this past Monday. I'm suppose to get my matriculation packet in the next week. The completion and return of it is time sensitive. So I think that they might be waiting for the matriculation deadlines to see who actually is accepting their seats before their refer to the alternate list. I know that seems like weeks away, but hang in there and good luck!

I think we will hear somthing back by the end of next week after the admcom meets wednesday...i dont know..good luck plus finals too 😱

is it true that some schools put around 60 people on the alternate list..is this the case for CSU ...60 people is a pretty long list ...😱

Does anyone know how long it takes to receive the matriculation packet after the acceptance email?

OK.. I officially gave up my seat..1 more seat open for those of you who are waiting

thanks guys, Goood luck everyone ..today is wednesday again.. keep praying 🙂

I think I will start on my shots then, even before I get the matriculation packet. It's going to take a while to get them all. :scared:

It's a pain in the butt. make sure you have the blood test to prove immunity too and not just the shots.

For those that accepted seats, 2nd packet will be sent out in a few weeks. I dropped of my contract and deposit in person and that's what Amalia said. I suppose that it contains immunization, drug screening and criminal background check info. So that means stay out of trouble and don't take meds that aren't prescribed to you. LOL. One more thing, the contract says that we must show proof of health insurance when asked. For those who aren't young enough to be under our parents' policy, how are you doing it?

First thing first: Congrats to all that have been accepted to CSU, and for those that are not, plz dont lose hope cuz i was first place on the alternative list n just got an e-mail today that i was accepted. Am i will be going there since this was my first choice. That being said, i was wondering if anyone was interested in living together....PLZ PM n looking forward to meeting all that are going to be part of Class of 2013! Goodluck to all!! 🙂

Woooooooooooooooooooowwwwww, I'm bursting with soo much joy right no. Just got my acceptance email after I had been put on waitlist. Its like a heavy log of wood has been removed from ma shoulders!!! So everyone still on the alternate list, keep on hoping, cuz dats what I did. Can't wait to meet my classmates in the fall. Class of 2009 wooooooooahhhhhh, go cassidy......its yo birthday.......go cassidy, its yo birthday!!! 🙂

hey congrats guys... I'm really hoping i get that feeling too!!

congrats to you guys..i hope i am next too 👍

I also got an acceptance e-mail from CSU after being placed on the alternate list. I will, in all likelihood, be attending this coming fall. I wish the best of luck to the rest of the applicants who are still waiting and do not lose hope. This was certainly a memorable cinco de mayo. 😛

I don't know about the matriculation, but you should have received an immunization form in your folder on interview day.

Congrats! I received my packet 10 days after the email. You will not receive an immunization form in hat packet. In the packet are two copies of the contract. One you keep, the other you send in with a $300 deposit. Be sure to select your white coat size. There will a page where you select your size. The next packet after that will be going out at the end of the month for those who already accepted seats. I suppose that you will get your second packet immidiately after they receive your contract. I know that the second packet will include info on the criminal background check and drug screening. I only know this because Amalia told me when I hand delivered my packet and deposit.

The immunization sheet was included in the folder on the day of the interview. I would get started on that right away. I actually went to get titers on all these per recommendation of my doctor. In that manner, I would only get those immunizations that are necessary. The packet indicates that you must get titers, a blood test, to prove immunization.

BTW, according to the CDC, titers don't always prove immunizations. I wonder what happens if a titer doesn't show immunity and you did get the immunization.

CSU-COP Class of 2013!

Is anyone else still waiting and on the alternate list?

I was placed on the alternate list and just got an acceptance email!!! 😀

i am still waiting on the list...

Congrats!!! Will you be accepting your seat?

BTW, anyone receive the second packet yet? I'm hoping we get our financial aid award letter soon. But we aren't even in the system at CSU yet. I tried logging into CSU Xpress and wasn't able to. Anyone else try?
