I thought I would ask the experts on this one.
What's the current situation with child/adolescent psych? Do psychiatrists push pills at the kiddies or do psychotherapy, more often? Obviously, people do both, but I was curious about the overall trend--I can't imagine having a great deal of fun if 90+% of my patients walk in and their parents think they have ADD, and I push one of three meds at them.
Is that REALLY the reason there's such a high demand for child psych now? ADD, ADHD? Or is it a mix of depression, adjustment issues, abuse counseling, addiction, schizophrenia, etc? Just trying to get a feel for the current practice environment when it comes to the actual patient issues.
Any info would be much appreciated! Thanks, all.
