chill prelim medicine

so i'm new but i've been looking through posts and archives for some not too crazy prelim medicine programs in the nj, ny, pa area. i saw some old posts but nothing recent and i dont know how frequently things change. any suggestions?
from what i've heard ty's are generally more chill than prelim years but they're also harder to get so i'm trying to keep my options open.
also i was wondering if i can apply to a ty at the same place that offers prelim med, more in the sense of "does it look bad" and "are you less likely to get either one" cause i know you can technically do it.
lastly from what i've seen you guys are great with advice so i appreciate any help you can offer. and please feel free to correct any of my misconceptions.

I'm looking into some prelim programs as well. Did a search but nothing too informative. Most of the threads are about "cush" transitional year programs. At this point, I think I have them all memorized!

It'd be nice if we got some input on relatively cush prelim medicine programs. Come on guys, help a brotha out.

i didn't apply to many prelim programs but i did hear that philly had a few. i think albert eistein's transitional and prelims are relatively cush and there are a couple of smaller hospitals in philly too. i think st vincent's in ny is relatively cush. like i said, i really only applied to mostly transitionals but those 2 came to mind. hopefully someone else is more of a help but for the most part prelims are a lot of work..

did you apply to transitionals and prelims at the same places? can you do that? or is it frowned upon....

it's not frowned upon as far as i was aware. i know people who did that and ranked 1. xyz transitional 2. xyz prelim. you just want to make sure when you get an interview for one you can try and combine interviews to make it easier. i really just applied to transitionals...i didn't really have a desire to do a prelim year. i wanted more flexibility. plus, after applying for ophtho and all their interviews, i cancelled most of my prelim/trans afterwards since i was just tired of them.

if you're applying to ophtho, unless you really want to do a prelim year, you should be fine in getting a transitional year in the ny, pa area since there are a ton..

yeah i definitely want a ty over a prelim but from what i hear they're getting more competitive to get into so i just want to have some semblance of a back-up plan

As mentioned before, yes, Albert Einstein in Philly is really "cush" for transitional year. I interviewed there last year. I would have really considered it but I just did not like the city itself.

That being said, all the current residents there were almost all radiology. I've heard that the more rads people a program has, the easier it is...
