  1. Pre-Podiatry
I know that ranking a Podiatry school is a hard thing to do, but I was wondering if anyone knows which Podiatry Schools have the most students get into the best residencies (the top ranked ones)? Thanks

Podiatry schools do not have official rankings like allopathic schools (ie no US news/report rankings). So asking this question here will only open a can of worms. Also, there are no real ranking in terms of residencies. In addition, the field is going through big changes right now and in the near future, especially by the time you would make it to residency. So, ranking residencies right now is pretty dynamic.

What do you mean by the field is going through some changes right now? I know that the healthcare bill will impact how the field is done, but is that what you mean? Do you think that the impact will be positive or negative?

Sound like you have a lot to learn about podiatry. Take most of what you read on here with a grain of salt. As far as "changes", I am speaking of issues unique to podiatry. These include, but are not limited to: different scope of practice in different states, medicaid status, residency number/type....and on. I suggest you find a number of local practicing podiatrists and go straight to the horses mouth for lots of your questions.

I am quite versed on the field of podiatry. I have been with (and continue to keep constant contact with) at least 6 podiatrists and I pose them all the same questions. I was merely trying to get clarification on what you meant and poll you on the healthcare topic as there are varying opinions on that subject. I do not believe that I have a lot to learn about podiatry because I have already done the research and I wanted to see what other peoples' thoughts were. Thank you for your response though.

I think air bud meant vision 2015 and the switch to the pm&s-36 residency model.

Each school has a fair share of students that go onto the "highly regarded" residencies. It really depends on the individual student and their interests. Not everyone wants to do a lot of academics or a lot of ankles or a lot of surgery. Also, and I think it has been said over and over again by attendings, residents, and students, a top student will be a top student no matter where they go to school. And I really doubt a residency director is gonna care which school you went to. Logically it doesn't make sense to rank a good student lower or a bad student higher just because of the school they went to.

Use the search function , as far as I am concerned my school is the best, why because I go there.

If you are smart and apply yourself, you will do well wherever you go. The top academic, hard working, and personable students from every school match with good programs, usually their top choice, every year.

AZ, DMU, and Scholl probably have the best basic science academics. Barry and Temple have great, diverse clinics and nice externship rotation schedules. Western is still very new and has the makings of a good program, but of course the verdict is still out. Cali college is one I don't know much about and have met very few students/residents/attendings from. NY and Ohio are... umm... well... run a search. 😉

GL with your apps... pod surg is a great field for those who work hard and apply themselves 👍

NY and Ohio are **** on by people who know nothing about them...that about sums that up.

I can't speak for Ohio, but NY is making incredible improvements in all aspects of the school.

All of the schools take bad candidates still, and all of the schools have good students.

I respect Feli's opinion on most of the things he posts on here, but out of curiosity, where are you getting this analysis of these program's academics? Correct me if I'm wrong but you couldn't have attended more than one of these programs so stating that they have the "best science academics" etc., is based on what?

While I'm sure you've met your fair share of resident's from each of the programs, it seems like a pretty unfair assessment's of a school based upon the few students you have personally worked with.

No offense intended, but I don't think anyone on here can realistically assess any school's academic program unless they actually went there or have statistical evidence to back it up. I have yet to hear a previous student of OCPM or NYCPM mention that they think their programs prepared them poorly. I only hear it from people who went somewhere else. It sounds to me more like someone trying to trump up their own school. People can say what they want about the admittance practices of these schools but I doubt there are many people on here who can make a fair analysis of the academics.

thanks for dumping on my school, your's s_ck's a bit too!😍

I don't go to NYCPM, but some of our clinicians went there and are phenomenal instructors and surgeons.

I'm in the same boat SurDoc. Life altering decisions are hard 🙁

NYCPM is one of the schools I'm considering. Why so many negative comments about it?

It sounds like (from what I have heard from various sources) that the NY school was a bit of a joke in the past. However, it seems that they have been on quite the upward trend and have been very consistently improving their education over the last decade or so. But it does take a school time to shed its bad reputation.

When you interview, ask for their board scores, residency placement % (how many students scramble each year) and then compare to other places that you'll interview. If you're a gunner and you really want to succeed, you'll do well anywhere. All of the schools give you a good foundation, and YOU have to do the rest. None of them will put you at a disadvantage just because of their reputation. And none of them can hold your hand when you're out on a 4th year clerkship trying to impress a director or its residents and match that program.

Expanding on g squared, NY seems to have had a horrible reputation on this site especially, and that is now perpetuated by some that only know about NY from this site. The school has improved a lot, especially in the fact that they no longer just take anyone (this is one of the negatives that seems to exist on this site). Their enrollment is capped at 109 as per CPME 100, and they only took 93 last year; they are turning more people away to create a higher quality class. With the advent of the new anatomy lab came a new anatomy course, up to par with any med school. Thats just one example of the changes taking place.

As others have stated, go to each school and ask the tough questions.

From what I've heard out on rotations, Barry is THE worst school in the nation.

^Probably said just to stir things up, but I've heard similar things, but then been given little evidence to back it up. I'd like to hear thoughts from graduates or current students.

Just trying to prove a point. I like Feli and respect his opinion but it is silly to go around and bash other schools when your alma mater is literally a joke out on rotations (among attendings and residents in my experience).

Get real Captain Insecurity. Feli made a comment and said to do a search with a few winks. So what, cry me a river. You come out and make two direct and extreme bashings based on hearsay because of this? Wow.

Adding a few winks doesn't change the intent of what he said. If he didn't mean something by it, he never would have mentioned it, emoticon or not. Now does that mean everyone needs to get all butt-hurt? Of course not. But PodunkUDPM has just as much right as Feli to take his stab. Would it have made you feel better if Podunk put a smiley after his comments?

I could personally care less whether any of you all think OCPM is a "top school" because it really doesn't make a lick of difference anyways. But come on, what's good for the goose is good for the gander. If Feli can take his jab at OCPM and NYCPM, then Podunk has every right to take one at Barry. Just because that one hit home for you doesn't make it any different.

Temple hands down is the best pod school out there. Academically, Socially, Financially, Morally, and every other -ally that you can think of. Only because that's where I'm going, of course. :meanie:

Just thought I would throw that out there in cyberspace.

Worse than Ohio?
Half of Class of 2010 at OCPM didnt match. Ohio has to be the worst f-ing school ever.

Great point zloetakoe. This thread could go on forever with this middle school fighting over which pod school is worst. I don't regret my decision on the school I chose. Do you?

There are 89 students in the class of 2010 at OCPM

Estimate about 20 did not match on March 8, so those 20 went and scrambled.
No where near 50% ...

Not all of those students were at the bottom of the barrel. Some, as in more than 5, had a gpa above 3.0. Currently there are 3-5 whom do not have a program and are waiting to see what happens after the second round of boards part II.

I am not commenting about the caliber of other schools ...... each institution has their positives and negatives. Some have more negatives than positives and really should improove on them.

I'm just telling you what I've heard out on rotations, not giving opinions. If you don't like these statements you'll have to take it up with the attendings/residents, not me.

That's fine, but it's useless and serves no purpose to make such dramatic blanket statements like you did and is only going to lead to arguments. Can people not handle constructive criticism about their school? Catchburns talks about taking jabs at one another, but many of these comments go beyond a jab straight to biting the other persons ear off. I'm just Mills saying to "chill out".

You keep saying from what your attendings and residents said, but wherever you go people are going to talk (and buildup their program). Everybody is a critic about something: MDs vs DOs, NPs vs RNs, Pod vs Ortho, etc and schools are no different. Barry has been doing very well the past several years, and from what I just recieved from our class president (today actually) we ranked 3rd out of all the pod schools in residency placement at 94%, our clinics are known for being excellent, and we have made many great improvements. We will gladly talk about what we feel we need to improve on and what schools we feel are better than us in certain categories as well. We haven't and do not claim to be the absolute best at this or that, but we know what we are good at and what we're not and need to improve upon and we are not afraid to state it. But there is a way of handling your criticisms and concerns. For example:

= douchebag

For someone who claimed to have a "high gpa"....you sound more like a douchebag than 95% of the people who post in the podiatry section.
You're not even in the top 10% of your class. What is your definition of a high gpa?

Lol I agree. Spo is a d bag

I think I know who you might be.

There are some fightin' words being thrown around. I know spo and he could honestly take on everyone on this forum. What was the original topic again?

Ha, thanks sir. But I would not let such comments get to me. Jewonthis is an established troll which started on him ripping on a DO earlier and the fact he makes up stats to put others down and bait a reaction confirms this. Whisker is a character though and we joke so I don't take him seriously either, he was my lab partner over the summer and you get used to it. I will send you a PM about his identity and chances are you will just reply "Oh...that kid. Yeah who cares."

Paulywog introduced me to sdn. He cares about me a lot.

I don't know any of you all, but I think I'll side with spo01 in this scrap too. Jewonthis needs to take off his wrestling tights and chill out a bit.
