Debating between CHSU and ICOM. I have to pay the deposit soon for ICOM, but I'm still not sure which school I want to secure a seat for. I have 3 interviews remaining for this 2021 cycle, so I may end up attending another school.

CHSU
Pros
  • deposit ($2,000) is partially refundable
  • closer to family

Cons
  • Total estimated yearly cost: $90,502
  • Slightly newer than ICOM

ICOM
Pros
  • Total estimated yearly cost: $78,792

Cons
  • deposit ($1,500) is non-refundable

Preferences/Additional Details:
  • Right now, I am staying open minded but I see myself most likely specializing, so I would prefer attending a school that places me in a better position to match into a competitive speciality
  • I am also very interested in pursuing research during medical school
  • I am not still not sure which is better in terms of learning augmented reality or cadavers
  • Both schools only provide private loans
  • Both schools do not have a graduating class yet
  • Both schools are for-profit

Both are very new schools that have not matched a class yet which will really not help you if you are wanting to match a competitive specialty. With that being said I would pick the cheaper one since the less debt the better. I would wait till the last moment when you can deposit and wait to hear from other schools before you deposit if possible.

I don't know how true/if this still applies, but I remember hearing that local hospitals or something were against ICOM opening. CHSU appears to be building connections with the surrounding area, but it seems like rotation sites are still a toss-up.

I have friends at CHSU and allegedly most of them took out only $80,000 in loans and are doing fine. Don't know where their rotation sites are, but they adopted like 30 3rd/4th year students from KCUMB and ATSU-SOMA to trial the sites and it seems to be going OK.

Seconding the thoughts on ICOM rotation sites based on this thread on Reddit:

It's still early though so I'm sure you'll get more acceptances to decide between than these.

Good lord, okay. Ignore Gem. That's rule #1. Ignore Gem and take a look at the most recent ICOM Threads. I chose ICOM over 6 other As including TUNCOM, DMU, and WVSOM. Gem has 0 idea what they're on about. There's a plentiful number of students willing to fight them and are current ICOM students.
