Wondering about the possibilities to get a short-term contract (mil, NGO, or non-mil govt ops) in the sand box region after residency, and with several senior buddies who are interested in this as well. Field is Anesthesiology.

Anyone know any options?

Spectrum health has contracts with a bunch of military installations....I doubt you're going to get to go...unless you sign up.

May be a stretch, but check in with the uniformed public health service. They are deploying folks that way (I don't know what specialities or for how long). They do let you generally contract for only one year to start.
