Class of 2013!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Don't worry pianola, I got it 🙂

In other news, I finally finished that stupid TEL last night. It took me like two months to get through that whole thing.

Haha, aznb0y and I are on the same page =).

Bravo on finishing the TEL. I'm giving my MSCT 3 for the first time two weeks from now. And then I'm giving it once again in April.

So glad to be done with this.

I'm considering staying on as an alternate-sub for Kaplan if they allow me to do that. I don't know that I'd have time to do this again in medical school, but it might be worthwhile to remain affiliated with Kaplan (fine I admitted it in public) 😛

No, it's slightly less likely than that because all of the waitlists are not mutually exclusive (for example, if you were on 10 waitlists, you obviously wouldn't have a 100% chance of getting off).

Hang out for a sec, and I'll crunch the numbers since I have nothing better to do 🙂

Heh, you're awesome. 😀😀😀

I really should remember how to do this given that I took stats LAST SEMESTER. 🙁

Ohhhh welll.

MSCT is such a waste of class time, IMO. I had such a tough time faking my way through MSCT 2, I'm not sure how MSCT 3 is going to go.

Yeah, the good thing is that there's no commitment beyond the class you're currently teaching. So if it turns out that I have more free time next year than I thought, I can just sign up for another class.

At the very least, you can proctor tests and get some studying done while you're being paid 🙂

For some reason I think it's more complicated than that...I learned how to do it last semester but I've already forgotten...

Yeah, 50% seems too convenient of an answer. Unfortunately, I've totally forgotten how to do these kinds of statistics, sorry 🙁

Yeah MSCT 2 had a lot of typos. So irritating.

I find that I'm easily able to BS my way through 3 hours 😉 Looks like I have a bright future as a physician :laugh:.

The stuff that gets me is the organic and gchem. I didn't like either subject in college and I still don't like them now 😛.

what is msct? i'm looking foward to be done with undergraduate. i can't believe it's been four years since i came here ... it has been an amazing time!

MCAT Strategy and Critical Thinking...it's a Kaplan thing.

Hehe it's all good; I hardly remember this either, so I had to brute force it even though I'm pretty sure there's an easier way involving factorials and other nonsense...

Basically, you have to find the probability of each possible outcome [i.e. P(getting in at school A and NOT at schools B, C, D, E)=.1*.9*.9*.9*.9=.06561]. Then you add up the probabilities of all of the possible outcomes that result in you being accepted at least one place, and you find your ultimate odds of getting in.

I get 40.951% (assuming P(acceptance)=.1 at each school, of course 😉 ). Or, in a positive light, a 59.049% chance of getting to be my classmate 🙂

Yeah, my group is pretty rowdy and talkative, so I'm usually trying to make sure we don't go over time. I think I only finished one lesson 10 minutes early, the rest either on time or 5-10 minutes past.

Weird, I struggle the most with physics (can't visualize the free body diagrams so well) and bio (because I took it like 5 years ago). I think the kidney is going to be a rough class day...

 Nicely done, Spurs.

Haha indeed! Very nice! And thank you for explaining it because it was driving me NUTS that I couldn't remember how it was done. (And I think our odds of being classmates are better than 60%, probably, cause I might not take an acceptance even if granted)

Okay, time for class...

It is so weird going to class so late in the day...

Oh fudgemonkeys! I forgot I had to pick up my art history paper for my other class...😡 Oh well, I guess I will get it tomorrow...

Yay! 🙂

1-(0.9^5)= 41% Chance of getting off atleast one...(I think)

Oops just saw spurs did it as well.

Oh ok. I have a friend who's applying to RFU for next cycle. Should I tell her to keep it? (Any thoughts?) I didn't apply there this cycle.
Well, I really dont think RFU is anyones top choice, its pretty much a safety for 9 out of 10 people.

pianola, i hated it when i interviewed. tell her to look for my post in the rfu thread. i really suggest saving the money and applying somewhere else. i'm sorry to bash on a school, but if i only go in there i might consider reapplying which is against all my beliefs (yes i know how hard it is to reapply, i said consider). sad thing is the dean is a really cool guy

🙁 Oh goodness. Yeah, I'll look through that thread. Thanks for the headsup...

Just dropped in to say "Howdy!"

Hope everyone had/is having a good Monday (even those of us not on spring break)!

presentation tonight maybe. there are supposed to be 5, and we are the 4th of 5.

Last week we had two and got out at 9. So I'm thinking I just don't know if this is gonna happen. lol.

Ewwwww that does not sound promising. Good luck! :luck:

Off to the grocery w/ my man. He's making lamb tonight. Yum!

See y'all later!

The exercises seem serviceable if unremarkable. Depending on your goals, you may want to consider either going with a HST or HIT (5x5) for best results. I think doing 3x6 with the workouts you're doing aren't going to help you gain or cut particularly much. at least IMO.

I move up the 5 lb's about every 2 weeks. I was able to progress this way for the past 9 weeks but now I can't go up that fast anymore so that's why I was thinking of taking a break, since next week is spring break, and this week I'll be super busy trying to not fail any midterms.

What would you recommend I do once I resume?
Right now my two routines are:

A:
Deadlift
Barbell Bench Press

Romanian Deadlift
Dumbbell Incline Bench Press

Barbell Lunges
Barbell Decline Bench Press

Cable Triceps Pulldown
Abs

B:
Clean and Press
Lat Pull

Back Squat
Dumbbell One Arm Row

Front Squat
Barbell Biceps Curl

Abs
Obliques

ok thanks, could you give me a link on HIT ?

Ummm.... I cannot find my lab notebook for research, and it has a year's worth of data... and I need to write my thesis....🙁🙁🙁🙁😡😡😡

I don't think so, considering that there are only two of us working on this project...

Turns out, the girl who works with me took the notebook thinking it was hers...

I can breathe now...😀

Hey did any of you guys take statistics?

I figure I'm on 5 waitlists at this point and have, at minimum, a 10% chance of getting off each of them (I'm guestimating whatever). How could I figure out my compound odds of getting off at least one waitlist?
. Figure out the chance of getting off of none of them and subtract from 1? So 1 - .9 to the power of 5? No statistics background, but probability is fun!

EDIT: Annnnnd of course Chubs has beaten me to the punch.
