Hi all,

I see that most of you applied to schools and ready to go. I am so frustrated with this because I can't find a doctor to write me a LOR!! I shadowed back in summer 2005 but the doctors that practiced at the clinic were different everytime, so I never got to know a doctor. Then the doctors that practice around my college area either say no to shadowing or allow only medical students to shadow! How am I suppose to get a physician to write me an LOR? Thus, I have 2 LORS from my professors and one from a dietician. The problem is that a dietician is not good enough, so what should I do? Although, I did come across one clinic in my local area that will allow me to shadow but she is a physcian assistant. "The physcians don't allow shadowing." 😱 Urggg! Now its June and I haven't applied yet! Any suggestions, please don't tell me to apply next year ( I know that option). Will a physcian assistant rec'd look better than a dietician's?

You probably don't need a LOR from a physician unless you are applying to a school that specifically requires one (I personally don't know of any). I would recommend getting another prof letter (you should have 2 science and 1 non-science if at all possible) and a letter from another volunteer/extracurricular experience you have had. It can be from work, volunteering, or whatever.

Transcripts will only be "received" until you submit your primary app. They won't even look at them until your app has been submitted. It can only be "verified" once the app is in and they make sure your AMCAS coursework matches up. A lot of people around the forums have been using "verified" to say that their transcript has been received.

I would suggest submitting at least a week before the 24th to make sure your app is verified in time to go out first. Honestly, though, I don't think it makes much difference if your app is sent out June 24th or July 5th. Anytime in June or early July is still considered very early - it's getting the secondaries in ASAP that really counts.

Thanks Chad for clearing that up! I was getting all angry at AMCAS for no reason 😛 Alright well I am going to aim for the 9th knowing I won't really get done until the 14th lol

Wait. Unfortunately, the next part of the application process is to wait. Secondaries will arrive via email and snail mail. Turn them around asap, and wait again.

Actually, it didn't take that long so I'm really happy. 🙂 I requested it on 5/22 (I think), it was printed on 5/27 and it was sent on 5/28 or 5/29, received on 5/30, and processed on 6/5. That's not too slow considering how many problems other posters are having!

And today my last LOR finally was "verified" by my pre-med office. Now all I have to do is finish this PS and I'm ready to go!

I'm so excited! I can't believe we're finally applying!

Reason this out with me: I'm pretty sure it was sent on the 23rd...but it could have been the 27th (23 is friday before memorial day and 27th is that tuesday). the lady I talked to said 99% of the time, they are there but just havent been processed, for whatever reason.

Better early than late. And some professors take 3 months or more to get their letters in. I'd hate to be held up in the process because I couldn't get a prof to turn in a LOR.

I have my interview with the Pre-Health Committee at my university next week (it's required to get a LOR), and after that I'll be able to fill out all the info needed about the Committee letter (primary author, contact info, all other authors).

When I finish this section, I have to submit the application again, right? Does this mean that it has to be verified all over again?

Yeah, I think you'll have to submit again, but I'm pretty sure it won't have to be re-verified. The stuff that was verified by AMCAS cannot be changed (by you) so I don't think they'd re-check it all.

I know that's right Para! I pray that I get to do that complaining! I'm gonna stay prayed up and faithful and start thanking him now for what He is going to. It's going to be a fun year.
