My mom's cousins had arranged marriages that worked out quite well for them. Of course, they got the final decision on what happened. I think there are certainly worse ways of finding a spouse...(our family's not Indian, though)

I told my mom she could be in charge of finding an arranged marriage for me, but she took too long and now I'm dating this really great guy 😉

But if you think about it, it was kind of arranged because your friend set you up on a blind date...

Yah, it does not make much sense to me either... I barely got any sleep because everyone wanted to tell ghost stories last night, and then play lots of basketball in the morning, so I did not sleep much... and I am even more tired... and yes, before anyone asks, I actually was hanging around with teenagers... they were closest to my age :laugh:

Yah, and it was actually the first time I played basketball in 6 years😱

I posted this before, but it is more relevant now: my brother is 5'3'' and I am 5'10'' and he can shoot the ball over me while I am guarding him, and he makes it... he is surprisingly good... while I fell on my butt many times... it was fun though...

in the same boat.. i have been learning how to better control my reactions, which thankfully is easier with the internet but sometimes in real life i meet people that i just have a serious personality clash..
for example, christmas eve, my parents and i went to jersey to see some of there friends and the mother of either the wife or husband was one of the msot annoying people i have ever met. she would just pry into your personal business and thenattack you for it and keep prying... i was proud of myself for how well i held it together and did not just tell her how absolutely insane and wrong she was about EVERYTHING she said.

im uh.. putting that off until er... may? i hate my pediatrician.. (yes, i still go to a pediatrician because ihave always been going to him.. but i go once every 2 years or so. he keeps giving me forms for urine and blood tests to take a center somewhere else in brooklyn but i never go...🙄)

im jealous.. i kept lying in bed until like 3am, not being to fall asleep, but ididnt want to get out of bed because it was sooo nice and warm under my really thick down blanket..
 
I already put it off as long as possible.. ha. Two of my shots are 6mo series, so I have to get started or I'll be looking for a new place to get shots in my new town... and that's not the way to start med school. :laugh:

Plus here my sister has to listen to me bitch, since she volunteered to take me. 😀

Eh I don't mind... my parents never let me date, so I do not feel like I am missing out, and plus I trust that my parents will make a good choice... but I still have a long way to go... I am not thinking of marriage anytime in the near future, so right now, I am happily single😀.
There have been some bad experiences with "love marriages" in my family so that is kind of a factor why I feel that love should not be the main factor of why people should get married I actually never understood it, but eh, there are A LOT of things I do not understand...

Plus My parents were had an arranged marriage... they kind of knew of each other because they are 3rd cousins (by marriage), as in they knew that the other existed in our large and convoluted family, and they just celebrated their 23rd anniversary last week.

Hey guys, I took a self-imposed SDN hiatus over the holidays and got a chance for some much-needed R&R. Family wasn't too annoying for a change, so it was actually a nice holiday :laugh:

Apparently I was on a mission to go to the movies as much as possible over the past 4 days (not my intention, just kinda worked out that way). I saw The Wrestler on Christmas Day, Slumdog Millionaire on Saturday, and Doubt last night. All excellent films btw, highly recommended!

That's cool.... I sometimes wish I were more of a mutt... sorry if you do not like the term... I am basically a Konkani Indian, as were my parents and grandparents, and since my parents are related by marriage, and my maternal grandparents were first cousins I do not have too much diversity in my family... I may have some Portuguese blood if I look far enough, since the portion of India that Konkani people come from was ruled by Portugal...

Actually you can get good deals at all times... plus it depends on living with roommates versus alone... and what if you get a good fin aid deal somewhere else... if you are set, then you should start looking now, and this way you can put your name on a waitlist for the really good apartment complexes... but you can usually find stuff at all times...

o ok.......at this point im not really expecting any real good financial aid deal, if one does pop up I guess ill deal with it then......would Ijust lose my security deposit if I decided to go to a different school?

My sister started looking for an apartment in mid July, 3 weeks before classes started, and then she found a rather good deal... but then she heard about someone looking for a roommate so that is where she is now...

OK, so maybe I'll start looking in mid-April? Schools have to fill all their seats by March so I'll have a decent idea of where I'm going to be in mid-April, I bet.

Anyone here play chess? If so you should sign up for www.chess.com and friend me "redrum-i". It is free and you can play live and stuff. I just play for fun, no training of any sort. I don't care if you are good or suck, I'm just looking for someone to play with on occasion. 😛

Just the heads up about when people can look for apartments.

I guess there's no harm in staying on the waitlist. But I'm probably not going to hold my breath because I would need some serious money to change my life around at the last minute.

Too bad, I kind of liked Pitt.

ps. apartment shopping already? 😱 I guess in the big cities where nice housing is hard to find...but I was planning on trying to find a place only after I figure out where I'm going for sure in May.

Even in the big cities, I don't really think that's necessary...as long as we're talking about off-campus housing. I guess for some schools the on-campus housing waitlists start early, but any place where there's a university is going to have a big changeover of residents around June, and there'll be plenty of students looking to move out. If you found an apartment that was vacant now, the owner would probably want someone to move in now, so that wouldn't do you any good.

yeah, that's what I'm tryin to say! It seems way to early to me.
is everyone here pretty set on living by themselves or is anyone thinkin about roommates?
 
In my experience apartments are usually lined up a few weeks to a month or two in advance of the move-in date. I am going try to do everything within my power to live alone, I have had wayyyyyyy too many bad roommate experiences. I don't need another source of stress while in med school!
 
You people who know where you are gonna be next year... I am very jealous... I am still holding out for the waitlists... although I am probably gonna have the same experience with this that I had with Northwestern when I applied... which was that they waitlisted me, but then rejected me...🙁

Also, hey c/o 2013! It's sure getting hard to find time to get on SDN over the break (just got back from the Alamo Bowl here in San Antonio, great game... and since my dad works for the sponsor, Valero, that means we got access to the company lounge where we got free food and FREE LIQUOR!!!).

Hope everyone's break is going well, may some of you all get some belated Christmas presents this holiday season, and those of you lucky enough to have decisions to make, I hope you make the right choice for yourself 🙂
