Class of 2013!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Seriously... all the research jobs I have come across have been max $10 an hour...

That's about what my university was paying me to prep labs, but it's useful as a stepping stone to higher-paying research gigs.👍

Edit: Granted, this is in Virginia. I'm making about $17/hr now, but I hear you californian types are making a lot more.

I have a full-time research job during the day. I just do the teaching thing on the side (2 nights a week). Booyah!

Excellent!

Yeah, if you look at it per hour, I get paid more for teaching, but it's not likely that you can teach MCAT prep full-time. Plus, that's not including any of the prep time.

I make around $20 an hour at my research job.

Yeah, the ones that are usually bad have some kind of variation on this theme. Like medicine is some kind of romantic notion that they're infatuated with. BORING.

haha... you gotta love the fatalistic themes... or those weird ass threads that pop up in the "what are my chances" forum that are like "HELP!!! I just discovered that i was born to be a doctor!!!"

:meanie:

yepeeee

no school, no work... we're all snowed in...😀

Lucky... I have too much stuff to do... I wish we had snow...

I have to go to school now, because the sun is shining brightly...

😱 I want your research job. Without the cost of living in New York 😉.

Man, I don't make that much for test prep.

Haha, weird coincidence, just saw my boss 5 minutes ago.

Interesting... maybe I did not look hard enough... Oh well, next year I will be in med school PAYING money so it really does not matter:laugh:

In your classes?

I was just kidding.... I put the wrong smilie in... whoops😳

Haha, oh I know you were kidding 😉. I was just sayin'.

Man, it must be fun to be an ADCOM reading through all those PSes. I bet that'd be amazing. I want to be on my school's admissions committee, I think. Wherever I end up.

Well, it's nice to have a greater pool of money from which to draw, yes? In my area there's a lot of biomedical research going on, so I don't work for a university, but rather the army 🙂eek🙂 by way of a contracting firm, so maybe that's it. But supposedly in this area you can get $35/hr or so... and that definitely isn't my job.

Midwest of the non-chicagoland variety. So possibly.

But still, it seems you take a 20-30% paycut at Universities as compared to working the same job elsewhere.

Oh definitely. My school barely paid me above retail.

In your classes?

No, she was ahead of me in line getting a coffee. Actually, her husband is currently a resident. He apparently had to take the MCAT a few times and reapply. Just as an anecdote. I like her, actually. I think she has a lot of sympathy for the MCAT-takers.

I like everyone I work with, really. It's just not amazing pay and sometimes it's a drag.

I heard students on the committee are worse than the faculty lol. Apparently they are more harsh, according to the dean of admissions at one of my schools

"I woke up with a monster hangover this morning and realized that I've always wanted to be a doctor."

Or maybe my school is just cheap...

Wages are only higher in New York because of the cost of living, so I'm sure it evens out 🙂

I definitely want to be a student interviewer when I get to 2nd year and eventually be involved in admissions somehow. Because I enjoy holding some puny pre-med's fate in my hands....just kidding.

Blargh. Still no decision from Upstate. This is going on 10 weeks now... 🙁

If they're going to reject me, they might as well do it now.

so i dreamed last night that i was banned from sdn for severe post-padding.

i've reached a new level: sdn is infiltrating my dreams!

nothin much, just post-padding with random poems. 😀

Hello! Sorry I missed you last night... Too bad I have to go to work now. Maybe I'll be around later.

My sister went to the VCU/George Mason game on Saturday... she said it was a lot of fun....

Ms. Chad's Uncle has season tickets (3rd row behind the bench, center) plus access to the "free food" area, so they were there on Saturday too. They said it was awesome. Despite the game sucking, I had a great time because those seats were just unbeatable. I've never seen a VCU game so up close before.

but I got another interview invite!

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!! What school?????

Sorry, but, uh GO MASON!

BOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!
