Class of 2013!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Yeah, I'd definitely still go. That would be one hell of a point to make in an update letter: "If you accept me, I will give a $2+ million endowment to your school" (subject to total winnings of course). 😀

Maryland would take me then!!

Not cool, Swarley 😡

Sorry buddy it just that Jet's fans draft day discontent is so iconic. I actually like the Jets, Cotchery is a beast, I hope this is the year he really breaks out. I always draft him for fantasy, the last two years he's shown promise, but it would be nice if he was the stud I expect.

As for the lottery conversation, I've often thought about this. I would definitely still go to school, but I think I would practice part-time here in the US and spend much of my year as an international medical missions physician.

 Yeah that might get your application re-examined.

ok to be honest, here's what I would do if I won $10 million:

- build a $0.5mil house (cash)
- spend $50-100k on a bad***** man-cave
- buy a 911 Turbo (cash) --- always wanted one of these...
- invest the rest, live off the interest of the remainder without tapping the actual sum
- have kids, put them through college
- do whatever I wanted all day (I mean without spending much $; aka lounging)

That bit is the one I would be worried about - I would be really bored just lounging, watching TV all day or reading by the pool or something. That's probably why I'd still get some sort of career even if I win the lottery. It would just be very nice to be able to do what you want to do without having to worry about money.

BTW, are you really that worried about how much it'll cost to go to Pitt? It's a great school.

All this talk about money is making me sad, and well, a little panicked :/

The lump sum payout would be about 250,000, which would pay for school.

Yeah. I would do med school on a part-time basis if I won the lottery. And I wouldn't really care if I did much more than pass, probably haha.

Then I'd become a psych and tell people that the best improvement for their lives would be winning the lottery 😉.

OK time for volunteering again.

See, I'm such a good pre-med. :laugh::laugh::laugh:

(Read: I don't want to stay in my house any longer).

Nope, but I'm expecting to get diddly-squat... planning for that contingency already, as it looks like we might not even get it until next week.

...I was about to reply. But it appears it's in my inbox as I write this.😱

I don't suppose you've gotten your finaid package yet, have you? Still no word over here.

So how does the Financial Aid package operate?
I was told we don't need to do anything once we get the award notification? ie, we just start going to college, and then we'd get a big check in the mail...somehow? doesn't sound right...

and OMBD, and rraska...i am with ya guys on the Peds! I mean....just LOOK a this VIDEO! how can anyone possibly watch this and NOT wanna do pediatrics!?

How is it?

It's such a nice day outside today! I've spent more time outside running errands than I've actually spent working (PI's out again today). 😀

Yeah, we've had some pretty awful drafts in the past. Revis was a pretty good pick though.

Cotchery should have a breakout year if the Jets manage to either draft a good QB or Ratliff/Clemens steps up.

My have to change my interests. When I have kids, they are for sure going to be dancing like this.

I could definitely see the Jets in some sort of draft day super trade that lands them a solid quarterback. The Jets, year in and year out, are one of those teams you always have to keep on the radar.

Stafford is going to the Lions, so that really only leaves Sanchez as someone the Jets could conceivably trade up for. Freeman should be there at 17 if they think he's their guy. I'm not really sold on Sanchez though, not sure if he's actually worth trading up for.

More than likely, they'll play it safe and go for one of the WRs.

I think Sanchez's ceiling is higher, but he can't be expected to jump right in. He needs to sit behind a veteran for a couple of seasons. I could see the Jets working something to get Jason Campbell or possibly Brady Quinn.

Alright just finished Intern, off to the library to check out this "House of God" everyone was talking about a couple of days ago.

The more I look at it, the more I realize I have no idea what it means...😕

Wow, isn't that a good thing? I still haven't gotten anything yet in my inbox while I was out at lunch. All I got was an email from one of my letter writers with the PDF version of the rankings.. his message was basically "as you make your choice..." What's he trying to tell me? 😕 lol

That rankings are everything?

I... think it's free money. We don't have to pay back grants, right? It's about 1/8th of the CoA.

Haha, Case is #25 and Wisconsin is #27. That doesn't help me.

Yup, grants are free, no obligations or anything. You definitely scored big! 👍

So you should obviously pick Case. My 340sqft LAN party just wouldn't be the same without you! I hope they are equally if not more generous for you! 😀

Yay! Congrats Myuu!

Aww, thanks! 😀

Thanks guys! 😀

I'm going to do some reading up on financial aid.:scared:

Good luck.

I just worked some of my financial aid for one school today; had to do the E-MPN notes and accept the finacial aid awards through the schools financial aid site. It's kind of surreal that with a couple clicks of a mouse I put myself in so much debt.

So apparently, all of my results for my experiments for the past year are now null and void, because I forgot to add the DNase FML^infinity power

Oh, man!

Completely non-recoverable?! No extra sample to test?:cry::cry::cry::cry:

Just to make you feel better, I will share some of my own FML-worthy stories:

- Mailman. And if you have no idea what I'm talking about: http://forums.studentdoctor.net/showthread.php?p=8008797&#post8008797
- When I was 17 I hit a parked car. In my own driveway.
- I rendered a GC/MS machine at my undergrad "inoperable" for 2 1/2 months. Mind you, I went to a very non-science oriented liberal arts college and we probably had less than 5 machines total - I broke my professor's personal equipment. I still have no idea how it happened.
- I will in 4 months, in fact, be a red-headed step child.

So (at least attempt to) buck up, camper! 😀

I'm over the worry 🙂 I haven't gotten my FinAid letter yet, but I'm 90%+ sure I'm going to Pitt (assuming I get in somewhere else and have a decision to make). I originally thought that WashU might be a better school, but I really don't think so now that I've done more research into it... To turn down Pitt, I'd probably have to get into WashU and get no scholarships/grants from Pitt, b/c WashU would end up being cheap for me considering my parents' looooow EFC. I want to get into one of my state schools so I have a bargaining chip and can maybe push for some aid from Pitt, but as it stands they know they are my only option (and will thus probably offer me zero help). If nothing changes and I have to pay the full ticket price though, I'll still be happy! 🙂

That's important! 👍 I was just wondering because of your signature. "Too expensive medical school", lol. Though most on this board would argue that there's no such thing as a "too cheap medical school"! 😉
