Class of 2014!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I got my first set of offers for aways. Both from UTSW for the first couple of dates I applied for. Will probably call them up now to see if I can rotate one week off, if not I'll just make it work with my school's schedule.

Based on this thread, there will be 600 of us applying for ENT this Fall.

I hope to one day discuss stuff with some of you at tumor boards.

First away acceptance! Also to UTSW. They move quickly; I like that. I'll be there in late August and most of September. Very happy about this. Plus, I have a free place to stay. At least I can save money by not applying to other Texas aways.

Now to wait and decide on the other two...

First away scheduled at Mayo (end of August to middle of September).

Hemming and hawing about whether to apply to a second.

Thinking about UTSW 😳 (although they will apparently have all 600 applicants rotating there based on this thread).

Near the end of 3rd year and there 8 in my class about about 110! I'm worried not enough space for those 8 let alone the rest of the world applying.

Also humph on the away rotation thing. Still waiting for confirmation.

Yea...I definitely got nervous when on our "career" day, like 8 people showed up to the ENT room. But you just gotta do you and worry about yourself. Btw a bunch of them now changed their minds or taking a year to get an additional degree, so the group is definitely fluctuating. That being said, you all stay away from my mentor...*hisssssssssss* lol jk.

Both of the programs I applied for aways to only review the applications 2 months before the requested rotation dates....which means I probably wont hear anything from either until end of May. I'm sitting on a couple of more applications but those programs don't open up their VSAS process til May. So.now.we.wait.

this thread still exists!

almost done with first year of grad school atleast 5 more left of grad school + m3/m4. feels like not enough time to really accomplish scientifically

That's a long time in school BB. Good luck with the research.

Good luck everyone applying to away rotations and for next yeArs match.

I matched EM, same city I'm in now but at a different hospital system.

Nice to see both of you back in here.

DrYoda, I thought you were all about Radiology? Congrats on matching!

I'm thoroughly enjoying psych hours, but the actual rotation is meh.

I was during M1 and maybe M2. Still a cool field, but I really just like the IR part and I don't feel like doing a 6 year path. Especially with rads (along with path) leading the job market saturation trend.

So I've been all about EM for the past year and a half or so.

You guys will love fourth year. The first half is busy, but the second half is pretty much just fun time. I'm currently just waiting for graduation/residency to start so I have a good two months of vacations and goofing off.

I am sure you love what you do but that timeline just seems soulcrushingly long to me. Do.Not.Want.

Congrats on matching!! Life must be amazing right now.

The banquet thing that I was planning is now done, thankfully, so I can concentrate on stuff again.

Have to some review article research stuff hopefully by Sunday.

Man these away rotations need to get back to us.... I hate the waiting.

12 weeks of medicine and 12 weeks of surgery? We only have 8 each. 12 weeks of surg is going to be tough

Always interesting seeing the different times devoted to different rotations at different schools. Hopefully you get some subspecialty work in 12 weeks of surgery. I would quit medicine if I had to do 12 weeks of gen surg.

Yeah it's subdivided a lot but I just don't know how yet. We have to do 4 wks of "gen surg" which actually ends up still being subspecialties anyway for most people, 4 wks of a subspec of our choice, 2 wks ortho, and 2 wks of something else that I forget.

amen! 8 weeks was more than enough to torture me into submission and thoroughly dissuade me.

i'm also jealous that other schools give neuro and rads some time during 3rd year. we get nothing until 4th year and on an elective basis.

How's everybody doing?

2 weeks left of psych here, then the hellhole of OB-GYN for 6 weeks until third year ends. Then two weeks until Step 2 CK, then CS, then aways.... Non-stop until October.

We still haven't scheduled our fourth year yet because of our horribly inefficient student affairs employee. I'm really hoping certain schools will start to process VSAS apps and give notification this week.

Applied to Cinci for Sept away. This is a big hurry up and wait game. Gir!

Went to Jazzfest on Sunday though (risky move considering I had an abstract submission deadline at 11:59 PM that day but it worked out lol). That was seriously so much fun. Learned what crawfish bread is and WANT IT for like EVERY meal lol.

Second away rotation scheduled! Going to MUSC.

Now just one more to go - the first one I'll do for the year.

Hooray! 👍 Still waiting to hear back about mine, can't wait to have my schedule all set.

I've never had that, but it sounds amazing!! Maybe I'll have to apply to Tulane to visit New Orleans and try it out. 🙂

Peds shelf today. These past few weeks of m3 are really going to drag.

At least I'll get some OR time on ob/gyn.

I am starting out my 4th year on Peds rotation...feels like I am a shark caged in a kiddie swimming pool. Might just start messing with dem 3rd years for funsies, I kid I kid.
I did get to spend last 2 months in the OR with ENTs and Plastics and not worrying about the shelves. Paradise.

Why do y'all call it 4th year if you haven't completed all of your required rotations? I'm assuming you're not doing a peds 4th year elective? Just wondering.

Start OB tomorrow. Should be lots of 430-6 days...

Well because I can't technically be a 3rd year when there is a new batch of 3rd years rotating with us.

The last two months could just as easily have been my peds rotation time but I wanted to get closer to the ENT familia earlier in the game than the other people I know are interested in it. *shrugs* Besides....we have more required rotations than time in the 3rd year so no matter how you slice it, we're doing some requisites as 4th years. (I still have a month of outpatient clinics for internal medicine left after pediatrics are over).

Got it. Well, I guess it's nice you can throw some elective time on the end of 3rd year like that since it will probably help you out more.

...and OB hell begins in T minus 12 hours.

Well I guess the MUSC away rotation is not first come first serve. Apparently they wait till June and compare the apps side-by-side and then choose.

Might apply to UVA as back-up.

Still waiting on Surgery grade, no clue why our school takes so long to get grades in.

eff you guys! you are scaring me!
I literally applied only to 3 places (although I have materials for like 7 other apps)

Imma just invade LSU ENT now. watchout!!!!

I have 5 apps in for only one away month

What has this process done to me? I need to get my mind straight... Or some school needs to pick me to rotate at their place in August!

First OB call tomorrow night. Hopefully my soul will be intact come Saturday morning.

Haha you LSU ENTers may be safe (for a little while at least!)..accepted for my first away rotation, yea ya!

Yay! Where you gonna be?

OB is a good start. You get the terribleness out of the way upfront.

I agree. That's what I did. OB at the end of the year would suck, esp. if you are at a site like met's at.

----

I got's a Tulane student with me on my fam med rotation.

I am going to Emory in August. My plan is working out perfectly *rubs palms together like Mr Burns* I was getting nervous there though....its the only place I applied for August away. Now waiting on Cinci and Vandy.

be nice to the T3 on your rotation, he/she be only a bebeh yet! (unless its a slacker T4, then you can do whatever lol)

He's a T4. He'll get to hang with another LSU peep for 3-4 weeks, as today is my last day of Family med. (whoop!)

I successfully defended my Master's yesterday. 🙂

Third year starts in 2 weeks. :scared:

contrats!! you are the bomb-diggity.
3rd year aint got nothing on you girl!

those of you doing away rotations.....what are you doing with your places of residence while you are away?!
