Class of 2014!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
A. I'm real jealous, I didn't even consider premed until I was a 4th year. Others did it even later...
B. 4.0 is waayyyy easier said than done. Especially depending on your major. Choose a major you like and get above a 3.6 and you'll be fine.

EMS/EMT/CPR certs are worthless unless you actually volunteer using them. I'm a volunteer EMT and I do a shift every week. It's a great way to get patient care experience if you can stomach the deformed injuries, blood on the road at an accident, dirty adult diapers, and vomit.

Research experience is good too, try to stick with one lab if you can. Then, you'll be able to make your way into your own project and get it published.

Good luck! Fire away with more questions if you have them. Or just hang out and make fun of us because we're neurotic applicants.

Haha thanks and sure ill stick around 👍

you're the second person i've recently heard say that canons are good! i may have to reconsider my plans for a nikon... my film SLR is a canon and i do love it. hm.

I'd recommend the Canon 50D if you're looking to go full out. It's so so nice. The nikon d90 is great too though and nikons have better view finders. But the 50D is just fantastic

does any one think this number is a bit weird

Wow that was a pretty huge typo on my part. What I meant to say is that more than 10 percent of the 35,000 living alumni of Holy Cross are physicians and dentists.

Because I'm sick. I can't kiss anyone (not that I have anyone to kiss anyway). I have to sit out of colorguard stuff for a month so that means I have to miss the first official performance of the 09-10 LSU colorguard.

Mainly the first and last reasons.

So are you going to be home all day for a month?

Basically. I'm not allowed to be in the sun a lot either. This is gonna be a long month. I just hope that this is the only thing wrong with me. I've been getting sick way too often.

Get well soon.

Being sick really sucks.

The one thing I missed during undergrad was being a part of a really great marching band (the music conservatories don't exactly have these opportunities...🙄).

Proud member of the Mississippi Lions All-State 2000 International Champion marching band!🙂

I love marching band. Although practice sucks sometimes, it's all worth it. I've never been in a band that has done a phenomenal show though. My high school band left a lot to be desired and LSU does a new show every other week (if not every week). Sometimes I wish I had done DCI, but I like my summers.

Similar background. I was a part of a school where the band was nothing to write home about, but the summer experiences were a different story.

I was REALLY close to doing Blue Devils (they needed contras and I knew one of their soprano soloists), but I didn't want to miss being with my girlfriend, now wife.😍

I think that's the real reason your sad... 🙁

That does suck though... Are you going to be able to still make your math conference?

😱😱😱 Seriously? Wow! I couldn't even remember to count the number...

Not all of us are big ole' sluts like you, 0C. 😛

Cute. That awesome about your All-State band though. What instrument did/do you play?

I am a tuba player.🙂

I do play pretty much all brass since that was my first career, but I still play semi-professionally on the tuba.

I enjoyed being put in the back with the guard members during parades...good times.😀

I can play the piano. But I can't march with a piano.

I've always wanted to learn how to play the piano, but I learned how to play the guitar instead. You can take that camping. 😉 (although, I should add that I never have...)

We're in the front of our parade block, but we ride the tuba bus. Yay bus 7! 🙂

So everyone, if you ever see 7 buses with police escorts all with signs that say LSU band, I'm on the last bus. You should wave.

I want learn how to play guitar.

I hear the guitar is really easy to pick-up once you know how to play the piano, but I don't think it works the other way, unfortunately...
Supposedly.
I could teach you peeps a thing or two on the guitar. Or maybe one of you is interested in buying an awesome guitar I'm selling? Any bidders?

Ha ha. I know a few Metallica songs myself. I typically play the blues, because I'm a huge fan of finger picking/style.

What kind are you selling?

I've had dead guy; it's OK. Personally I like more hops. Most of my favorites have IBUs of above 80; closer to 100 is better.

Dead Guy or Double Dead Guy?

I haven't tried those, but I'll have to give them a shot. I think I'm going to have to keep a beer journal by my pc, because I know I'll forget by tomorrow or will have thrown away the piece of paper I write it on (more likely I'll stash it with other papers where it will sit until I move, then I'll throw it away...)

I'm not done yet either, but I'm not taking my MCAT until July 17th... So, that gives me a little time. I think I might try to submit by the end of June though.

Had my transcripts sent in today! 😀

I suggest joining www.beeradvocate.com. I guess I'm lucky in that I don't really have to worry much about deadlines for the AMCAS.

I'm not thinking about med school i was just wondering what are important because I really don't know. And the D90 is my favorite camera of all time right now, nikon is ftw. I have a Canon XSi which is ok..it's great to start with and get into dslr, but can't really do some of the more technical aspects.

You should be more concerned with having a favorite lens 😉 I don't have very expensive glass but my sigma 10-20 seems to always be on my camera.

This thread moves too fast, had to read through 4 pages 😡 I wish there was 200ppp still.

I usually keep a telephoto lens on my camera (ie that's my "default") because you can do a lot more/they suit what i take pictures of. I really like it when I can get my hands on a macro too though.

Here's my favorite lens right now, i can't afford it though 😛

I love it because it also makes two of my other roommates gag when I go to the bathroom. I'm willing to take that hit for the sake of them getting sick.

My advice: Use it to your advantage. Only certain people can actually smell it, so you can use your superpower as a sneaky first strike on someone you don't like.

I hope after I get into medical school this year I don't spontaneously transform into a huge loser with no life that tries to compete for the "top" post (with unfunny symbolism courtesy of Google image search) in a 150+ page thread and say things like "class of 2014 pwns you!" or "too bad you 2015ers aren't as good as us 2014ers!!!!@" or some other such *****ic thing ad naseum.

I had a 70-200 f/2.8L for a brief while (between February and probably October of last year) and it was a pretty nice lens. I bought it used with an XTi, tamron 17-50 f/2.8, and some accessories (bought for all of it for a grand, ended up selling the L for $800 heh). I think I would rather have the 70-200 f/4L IS though, it is supposed to be sharper. I'd like to pick up a 100mm macro at some point in the future, I've always enjoyed taking them.

seriously though, the problem is, i live alone. in a studio apartment. so i have to keep that bathroom door closed or else that smell enters the living room aka bedroom.

You got a super great deal for a grand then haha. That's awesome.

Yep, I already had a year old XTi, so I gave the other one and the tammy 17-50 to my dad (a great lens btw).

Dude, I'm with you. It's rancid.

Ha ha. I hope you're not suggesting that he pee on some of his roommates things...🙄

Is that true that only certain people can smell it? Is it somewhat akin to tasters and non-tasters?

You guys sound like a bunch of peeping Toms with all your camera talk... I like it! 😛

You got a patio/balcony with your studio apt? That's sweet, man. I wish I had a balcony in mine. But I guess if I did I would do nothing but sit out there and drink beer all day...

It's an ESP EC-1000. Basically a lighter Les Paul that you can play better, and looks cooler. Has a killer quilted maple black cherry finish top. I'm going to sell it when my custom guitar I'm putting together is finished. Then I'll use the money to buy an electronic drum set so that I can have an entire band's worth of instruments.

Nice, man! That sounds pretty sweet. Way out of my price range though.

Yeah, it's out of most people I've talked to's range. It's nowhere near the amount I've spent on my custom guitar though. I stopped counting at $1200, when my first 3 bodies didn't work out. The reason I got the ESP was because my guitar was taking too long and you can never have too many guitars.

Ha ha. You are certainly more into it than I am, but that's awesome. What kind of stuff do you play, other than Metallica?

I just have a Fender electric/acoustic. I used to have a couple electrics, but I sold them when I went back to school. Had to pay da billz!
