I don't know, I do it in my mind because there's nothing harder mentally and in a lot of cases physically. With the no food no water thing, you got to keep yourself together in school (i do anyway, a lot dont) and everything else you do. It takes its toll on ur head. Then there's the nerves and the matches which is a whole new ballfield. There's a lot of pressure because my coach is tough as nails. There's no excuse because your opponent is the same weight as you, it comes down to who wants it more and who'll fight harder.
Most wrestlers crash toward the end of the season because the it's one of the longest (4 months) and by the end your body just can't handle it.. You really can't eat so little and maintain that weight for such a long time without getting weak and twitchy
EDIT: i wrestle year round though, and i just crash diet before the tournys (i have one next sat, then nationals on july 1). I couldnt do that during the season because of how close together the matches and tournaments were. i have practice mon through thurs 6-8
