anyone know of an easy or cheap way to run a background check on yourself...im curious what will pop up for med school purpposes...theres a few things that might pop up thatworry me...

I know you can pay those companies to run one on you. Fairly expensive I thought, though.

i ran into redrower at lunch during his interview day. his body expression was hilarious. i'll let him describe if he wants to. :laugh:

so i rescheduled sinai for oct 20, because i'm waaaay worse today than i was yesterday-- now i have a fever. and if i have swine flu (which i am praying to god i don't) i'm sure as hell not going to infect everyone at MSSM. le sigh.

October interviews are still early in my opinion. I don't think it will put you at a disadvantage. And hopefully they will see you are mature/practical/thoughtful to make this decision not to infect everyone else there.

thanks, that's what i'm hoping too. i'm thrilled they could reschedule me so soon. if they hadn't been able to, i probably would have just powered through tomorrow. i guess i'll sleep instead 🙂

So, as of last night I had 3 huge tests next week. Whatever, right?

As of today, now one of the next week was actually this Thursday all along. So now I'm back where I was before, minus one night of studying since I thought I had no tests this week.

just found out a friend got a lower MCAT than expected. he wont tell me what he got, just that he is retaking. i feel really bad for him especially because i suspect he will be way too late for this year even with a good score. he already started sending back secondaries and stuff from what i can tell. 🙁 maybe he will get a surprise interview or two . . . of course i dont really know what to say since he wont tell me the score. whether its a 19 or 29 makes a big difference . . .

The other day, I met somebody that retook and got 3 points lower. 🙁

thats awful🙁 that was my biggest fear-that id retake and either not improve or do worse-but luckily that didnt happen

aw poor guy. make sure to tell him to take his time and not retake til his practice scores are where he wants them, cause like you said he'll be too late for this cycle anyways so he definitely doesnt want to rush and not improve.

Yea, get some liquids and some rest, hope you recover soon! But if you get sick again before your next one, make sure to tell me first so I can shoot them an in the area email :meanie:

My fears too...especially since I underperformed compared to my practice tests the first time.

Hopefully it's not the H1N1. I think I had it this summer (never formally tested) and it was not fun.

I got accepted at one but im not sure if i should bother applying to others. I was in their medical program and ALMOST got kicked out. BUT didnt😉

Uf is probably the best medical school on paper, but definitely not a nice environment. everyone's a gunner there and the whole grading system in on a curve. they dont care if you are failing either. they have the whole 'survival of the fittest mentality'

UM is a pretty decent medical school, more respected than USF but deals with a huge spanish population obviously. They do a lot of work at Jackson Hospital which is a so-so hospital imho.

USF is under new leadership with some new faculty members... Not the best med school but a lot of great hospitals in the area for training.

If I had to make the decision, I might pick UF just because I know some people there that could help make my first year a lot better than it would be otherwise. That's a tough decision either way. If I were you though, I'd choose UM

Just curious - how are the UF hospitals and patient diversity? It's in Gainesville, I mean really? It's not like it's Charlottesville or a college town known for being different or anything. This isn't hating, it's just me being curious. School looks good on paper, but I wouldn't be too sure about rotations and such.

Shands is a HUGE hospital with a LOT of really talented doctors and they treat patients from all over the area, not just gainesville. They also have a Shands hospital campus in Jacksonville too, which is really big on transplants. I'm sure the patient diversity in Gainesville itself isn't great but the affiiate hospitals are pretty elite and great places to do training.

OK, just wondering because I've heard Gainesville is meh. Hospitals are one of the more important parts to me.

Upstate just put me on hold and apparently no one has been off their pre-interview 'hold' in years and years. (unless it's post?)

Ugh. I'm a state resident with an above average GPA and MCAT (slightly) for this school.

No I believe no one has been off post-interview hold in years, not pre-interview. They take people from pre-interview hold later on.

that sucks im sorry🙁 im in the same exact position if it makes you feel any better-in-state slightly above their averages and on hold. i dont know what i did to anger the suny schools but they definitely dont seem to like me very much so far haha

Even though there's 6 in-state schools... ive heard more from OOS then the IS ones... and i applied to about the same amount of OOS schools hah
 
My IS schools are baiscally ignoring me. I want some love from more NY schools.
